Thats what we are here for to spend yur money...  ROFL  now figure out the cost of reboring and you probably find we saved you some money.... My consult fee is 20% of the savings you made...  ROFL  chrrs

flwa   ha !!! i'll have to be sure to send a check..... cuch

jim, are you an okie ?  i's hatched in claremore oklahoma..... yakyak

but ? really ? i do thinks you guys did save me some money, and yes, it be nice to keep the ol' fifty barrel.

this barrel is a 1:30 twist, .54 caliber. reading about conicals....???

hummmm...no patch. boolit must be lubed ? a wad over the powder ?tell me what ya'll know about conical's,  and what can i expect for power /range

im wanting to use it deer hunting , here in missouri,

should be good out to 75 yards or more. i've hunted with my pop's old CVA, .50 PRB, but never shot anything over 50 yards.

and twenty years ago, i shot a nice buck with this lyman.but it was only 30 yards or so.

anything you tell me helps. i've gotten a little .36 caliber H&A 21'' barrel, buggy rifle, that just set the blackpowder bug infection to a new high.

i love the underhammers, even have a .62 on its way.....someday, wait time is long.

but this old lyman was my dads, i'll always keep it, just wanting to hit harder than a PRB .50

thanks

Yep, sure have.  The relatively short bullet lends itself well to middle of the road 1:48 twist barrels like my .54, and the addition of a fiber wad over the powder charge tightens up the grouping to clover leaves, just understand that the trajectory is different than a RB and it will hit lower.  Reduce your normal RB charge and start with 60 grains.

peabody

well, now... i'll sure give em a try....

my lyman is a .54 in 1:32 twist,   still work ?   or a conical ?

thanks,

I'd give them a try, but in this case I would start with 65 grains in your rifle.  Since your barrel is more of a fast twist it's going to shoot conicals better than RB, but you can still use them if you keep the powder charges down.  Again, you're going to have to just do some shooting with various projectiles and see what your rifle likes.  I would look at the Ultimate 1 conicals as well, which are all lead and come in various weights so you can match that with your twist rate.  I'll scare up the link and post it here.  Meantime take up Jim on his offer and Happy Shooting!

If I remember right my Lees come in at around 400-450 gn. but I'll send you 1/2 doz nd you can see if your rifle likes them... the mold is only about 30.00 from lee when you can find it in stock...
