In regards to the "cleanout" screw on the snail and drums of rifles and such...
I was always under the impression and advise from those in the know, that the sole purpose of that hole, was to drill the flash channel into the bore. The screw was merely a plug to cap off the hole.
Removing it to clean the gun is really not nessesary. You will often drop the little screw and loose it, have a hard time trying to find a replacement, bugger the head, strip out the base thread ect.

After learning all of this, I removed all of mine one last time and applied anti-sieze grease to the threads and replaced snuggly. Have not removed since.
I clean in the sink and pump water in/out thru the nipple. I dont even remove the nipple anymore as there has been no evidence to after a check at random time proved my flash channel to be just as clean as the rest of the barrel....clean!

So I 'spose what I am saying is.... the "cleanout" screw is not a clean out screw, but a plug from a machining operation.

thanks for that information,  i just now putt anti-sieze on mine.

nipple threads too.

love this new .54 barrel, looking forward to trying her out.

the new barrel came with a new tang, with a set screw, in the center... i thinks ? its for a tang sight ?  like a lyman peep sight ? that would be nice.

Don't use a peep sight...it's only for old tired eyes like mine which can't focus on the rear sight otherwise. But I can still see through a fuzzy circle.
