Did anybody catch the last episode of "Top Shot"  when they were shooting  flintlocks.  They were anything  but top shots! 'shok'  Their gun sure did drop a lot like 2 feet or more at 125 yards. They wouldn't been able to hit the side of a barn at 150 yards.  And their expert was anything but an expert. hdslp  They made it sound like it was luck to hit a target over 25 yards.  If you haven't ever shot a flintlock you probably would not want to after watching that show.  I would have thought they would presented things a little more accurate.  I personally thought the show was a bunch of Hollywood crap!  I bet over half the people on this forum could have outshot those expert marksmen.

If anyone has information on this program I would like the contact information, I don't have access to the program myself but woud be willing to write a letter on the program inviting them to one of our Vou's so they can see fowlers making 100 yard shots and flintlock rifles making 200-250 yards shots with accuracy... and without misfires....

Good thought Red Badger, I think we all should write them a letter and let them know how inaccurate their show and information about flintlocks was.  They totally missed the boat with that show.  It was just typical Hollywood hype!

They dont want people knowing what the real capabilities of a muzzleloader are.

I don't want start bragging, but on the 50 yard target I beleve I can do better standing off hand will my match lock, even with my eyes the way they are now.

I am not so sure about that Voy - the History channel seems to do a fairly good job of being truthful in the show they present... Now the producers on the other hand may not be interested...

If you like the "Survivor, Big Brother" type of program.  You might like Top Shot.

I think the big thing is that they don't want their "expert marksmen" to look to bad. The shooters may be experts with various modern weapons but with archery and muzzleloaders, as we know, it can be a whole different story. If you don't practice with both, you usually don't do well. imho

Well said graybear. I know shooters that I would say were in the top 15% in world with modern guns that can't hit the ground with a muzzleloader.
As you well know balance is slightly different and they for the most part shoulder different than a modern long gun. Also most of them have been told for so long that a muzzleloader is not accurate, they believe it so they don't try as hard as they would with a modern long gun.
As NAULTRICK said earlyer in this thread "accuracy takes practice, practice takes commitment, and commitment takes desire", and if you buy into the idea the muzzleloaders are not accurate you are not going put the commitment in to it.

Just the way I see it.

You know, I never did see a patch in any of the slow motion video. Pathetic at best.

got to give credit where credit is due though, ( I watched it on my computer after receiving the link) a couple did hit the bull... but the comments about misfires, lack of accuracy, and such struck me as a bit condescending....

I did send the History Channel as a whole a message about it, and would have sent one to the producers had i been able to find an address to send it to...

Was going to make a comment in the comments area but that seemed to be mainly for people cheering on their favorite shooter.... and I don't need another site to keep tabs on
