I dont know if this is the right place for this but here goes
I have about 25 sq ft of premium red oak hardwood flooring and want to make a box similar to a foot locker for camp storage or tent storage when not camping. Any ideas or pictures will be appreciated

RoaringBull

Jerry, I found some great patterns by doing a google searcg for blanket chests

Jerry, the oak will make a beautiful camp box. However it will be heavy as an anvil. I have an oak camp box that is very sturdy, but heavy! I reccamend using some nice pine 1x12 instead. Make them simple and easy to carry and pack. Just make what is called a 6 board box.

4-1x12x24
2-1x12x10Ã,¼
20-1Ã,½" drywall screws
1-Ã,¼x12" dowel rod to cover screws
2- small hinges or use heavy leather for hinges.

thats all you need. if you make your camp boxes the same size they pack up much easier into yout truck bed or camp trailer. Hope this helps, Jerry.

You got any pics?

I have realized the Oak is going to be heavy I'm going to make a 16x16x24 from it  and line it with styrofoam for a cooler
Probably going to plane the boards to  1/2" to cut down on weight

What kind of rope will be more correct for handles?

Got a new pine one delivered a few weeks ago... made bya friend. It is heavy witt nuttin in it ... will take a pic n post Jerry.

Found a Boy Scout plan for a camp box....some other good stuff on there as well.

Well I am about 80% finished with my first box it is apprx. 14" x 16" x 24" I planed the Oak to 1/2" to cut the weight. Now that its almost finished it looks more like a shipping crate than anything else

I'm thinking of using leather for the hinges how will I attach this leather

Mr Woodchuck

straight blade screws run em thru hammered up pennies then inta the leather.
sorta lika por mans finish washer Jerry

Here is what it looks like Rude and Crude
still have to put on hinges and hasps all of leather and am looking for a clear pic of an 1800's shipping company logo to stencil on the box before I oil it down

Ranger

Chaffa Hosa

It weighs about 20 pounds Its not as big as it looks
I need some 1800's type markings to put on it

I'd put "Team Lift" on it.
