Ole Terry built this for me ... for use in my base camp... he meant for it to be carried one time   it is huge heavy n built strong ...
all white pine ... needs a coat of oil yet .

Here it is all oiled up with leather hinges and closing straps
I have to add carry handles and I'll be finished maybe, I may put in some styrofoam insulation and use it as a cooler an idea I got from Tom H
I am also going to bogus up a Bullard & Son's Traders logo and stencil on it

real nice! one idea I might suggest is to put a drainage plug in the side/bottom of the cooler. I have a box cooler just like that and it is waaaay heavy when the ice melts and gets full of water. having a drain plug would be better than dumping it over (which is what I have to do), the water tends to roll down the side of the styrofoam and get trapped between it and the wood, which will eventually cause it to rot I'm guessing.

my x-husband made one about 3 times that size for the tent, blankets, etc. it was really pretty - made it out of oak! of course I couldn't lift it, with or without him. we gave it away to someone who keeps blankets in it (at home).

The trick is to use 1/4 or 3/8 plywood n frame the edges. WINK

Jerry, I just won a nice box at a shoot this weekend. I will take a picture of it this coming weekend and post the pictures for you. I had to leave it at camp because I was out of room in the truck for the ride home, and it was raining. The lid has a mountain scene wood burned into it. Wait till you see it, you won't believe it made it to the tenth pick of the blanket.
