Let's have a catagory for posting warnings of false advertisers, bad deals, rip-offs, stolen property, etc. I've had hunting bags, gun parts and other items stolen and want to get it back and warn others

That's not a bad idea, Pete.

At the same time, we might want to point out the good folks (like yourself: that pistol barrel I got from you is great) who grace this site.  I've made several trades on this site, without a glitch or problem!

That does sound like a good idea.
I am all for it.

All though I personally have had no bad deal on this site, nor with anyone on it I can see a possible need in this category.  Might not be a bad Idea.

I have to agree with Bullfrog... Ever since I found this site I have had nothing but good deals, and lots of helpful people.  I do however see a lot of other sites out there where I have been taken advantage of or just plain ripped off so I do see a need for this catagory.

So let's get this off the ground. I'm not slinging mud at this site, rather I'd like to warn folks about others. Or post info about companies that went out of business or changed locations.  flwa

Having a forum for listing objects that were stolen might be of value. I think they still have a small spot in each issue of the Muzzleblast ,  of guns stolen at shoots etc.
As for deals between individuals that go sour , I.d have to do more research before making a reccomendation for or against such a feature.
I,ve been lucky over the years , I guess , I have purchased several guns and other items on at least 3 different boards and each time the gun or other item has met or exceeded their discription. On another board , a member started to bellyache how a certain builder sent him a piece of junk and really did the mean mouth thing. Many people on that board had purchased guns from this builder and had no problems or a problem that the builder made right. We need to be carefull not to stampede without good cause.
You,ve all seen this with the guns from India. Seems many have a grudge against these guns that never even handled one. Would I buy one? Quite possibly ,  if I were to actually check them out and determined them safe to my standards.
I think the idea of black marking  a Co. , builder or dealer would be a service to all , but needs to be done with care.

I agree, maybe a board that would talk to both sides so as to even the playing field a bit so we just don't get bad info, cause there will always be someone who thinks he got taken advantage of.

I have to agree with gordy.  I have spent a lot of time going through a lot of old threads on this board because there is a goldmine of information, and I don't like to ask questions that have been asked and answered. In that time, I have seen a wonderful job of this group policing its own.  But, my concern for this type of board would be the work load for the moderators.  There are always two sides to an issue in a "sour grapes" board.  "He said, he said" issues that I have seen on the net rarely have the most important factor in a dispute - Facts or proof. hdslp

If there were to be such a board, as a moderator I'd want it to be a strictly-facts proposition: a company has gone out of business or changed locations, my gun or guns were stolen -- things like that.

I'd be opposed to a board or forum encouraging the posting of complaints about companies, builders, or individual sellers. I've been personally involved in too many situations (where I was neither buyer nor seller, just in a position to be aware of what was going on) where I know, firsthand, that either the complaints being lodged were off-base or the individual complaining simply refused to be satisfied with anything the other party offered, no matter how reasonable, and then insisted that the other party refused to make good on the problem. Oddly I can honestly say that these one-sided, unfair exchanges have, with only one exception, always in my experience involved buyers or other customers who were completely out of line.

In other words, for every person who may have legitimately been ripped off, there is another one whose expectations aren't in any realm of human reality and who feel they've been ripped off when, no surprise, those expectations aren't met. There are also those who are chronic whiners, who go into any deal with the certainty that they're going to be done dirty and won't rest till they've figured out how things have once more gone badly for them. It's way more tiring than it could ever be worth to have to sift through the inevitable "he said, she said" to try and get to the truth of the matter, and additionally there's the simple fact that some otherwise nice and rational people have a rather negative way of looking at things, and if a complaint is lodged against a company or individual their minds will register and retain THAT even when and if it's proven that the complaint was bogus. I'm not in favor of providing a forum or board devoted to enabling that sort of thing, and regardless of the stated intent of those who suggest it and those who would have to establish and moderate the rules for it -- that's one way in which it would very definitely be used.

We already have a feedback board associated with the sales area, and surely the "Announcements" or "General Muzzleloading" boards are sufficient for the posting of basic info that others need to know, such as the closing or moving of one of the businesses catering to this sport. If the poster so requests and the staff agrees that it's of sufficient importance that it be "stickied", it will be, and then the info stays at the top of the first page forever.

I will agree with Mongrel its just to much.

Dogshirt

I think, as Mongrel put it, "Fact based" is great. And I think any conflicts between buyers and sellers should
be kept between the two parties and not involve the rest of us. We have a great forum here, and I would hate to
see it torn in two! I'm not even sure that these should be mediated by a third party. As Mongrel put it, some folks just have unreasonable expectations.

beowulf

would have to agree with mongrel on this one ! I`ve seen companies I`ve dealt with and never had any gripe with run into the dirt because someones expectations were way overboard !

woody

I agree with Mongrel and the others, I think we've already got this pretty much covered, ...no need to step into what could become muddy waters.

Hawken50

[hmm] I personally dont think a board for this is neede for the same reasons,as has been stated in Mongrels post.
