If I need to cuddle up to anything warm my preference has always been a doggie.  But my mind is still sharp and I...I...hmmm.  I'll remember it, maybe, later, or something else or not at all or...   ???

pulled a good last thursday ! somehow lost my balanced ( friends and enemies will tell you I`ve been unbalanced for years ) and fell on my back ! this would not have been a big deal , except for one thing . I landed on the edge of my bed frame , it making contact with my lower back on the left side . think of taking a kidney punch from a gorilla ! the result was intense pain , and having broken many bones , being stabbed and a few other things , I am an expert on pain  thmbsup, dang near blacked out ! I actually heard as well as felt the two lower free floating ribs snap ,, that night there was`nt much sleep , did pass out for a couple of hours friday , been a miserable few days , but the pain has let up a bit , except when coughing , and sneezing feels like the accident all over again ! taking pain meds , they dull the pain , and I still get around fairly well , just have to be careful lifting , and turning ! was told it`ll be at least 6 weeks healing ! did not need this with winter approaching ! hope you all are doing better than I am !

The only golden attached to the getting older is the color of your pee. All y'all need to be very careful. Pain isn't good. It is just the announcement that you've completed a "No-No". Good luck to you all in the days (years??) ahead. I'm 81 now and when I retired from the Air Force, I told everyone there that I planned on living to 102 years old just to screw the government out of the extra retirement monies. (At the time the average life after retirement from the armed forces was around 10 years.) Shooting my black powder guns sure reduces the stress of the everyday BS in life. Stay safe and get better, all of you. That's the standing order from General Horse Pucky.

Like Doggoner I am an octogenarian, it seems every time I try to do something I wind up with a new pain or injury. Unfortunately, my brain says that I am 38 years old and in fine shape. Delusions are dangerous.

Hanshi

HEY!  You guys stop this falling, breaking, straining, stumbling, etc.  There ain't no gold in them later years.  Best we can hope for is to die in our sleep....but not for a long time.

I'm only 77 but could pass for 76; I really do look that good.  My only claim to fame nowadays is being Boo Boo King - I collect them.

Sorry Hanshi, but I rejected your advice and like a durned fool took a fall a few weeks ago. The worst part is I tripped over something I had just set down. Fortunately my amazing reflexes and super human strength kept me from splitting my head open and I got away with cuts, some really cool bruises, broken toe and a mild concussion. Forced me to see my doctor for the first time in many moons. On the bright side, I am still as good looking as ever. IMHO   dntn

Brother hotfxr, I just don't really know where or from whom we got our Hollywood good looks.

Once again!  You guys cut out this falling, breaking, bruising and doing things you shouldn't be doing - you too, Hanshi- and listen to your squeeze like I've painfully learned to do.  I have osteopenia and enough osteoporosis to start worrying about breaking a hip.  My BAD fall was near a couple of months ago but some boos boos still keep me company.  And now that I had to turn my DL in and can't drive safely I have no way to get to the rifle club & range.  So from now on I will only get to shoot on rare occasion and go with someone who drives.  The Parkinson's therapy sessions definitely are helping and they are also a good workout.  That means I have to give up "wing Walking" at air shows and for good.

Lets stay in touch brothers and keep Red Badger on his toes.  Has anyone heard from in the past couple days.  I know he is scheduled for eye surgery,

Red Badger

Ever since July and the viral meningitis I have fallen 3 times and almost fallen several more... With the back and neck injuries I have had received previously I just want to sit back and take it easy... Nah still planning on rendezvous and buckskinning for as long as my body will let me...

Everybody!  Watch your step and don't take chances.  Knowing how to fall has rescued me from injury, mostly, but I've simply taken far too many falls; several each week in fact.  I can only make wild guesses what the total is because I don't really want to know.  I took two more "gooduns" just this past week.

Now I'm not an octogenarian but I still love seafood.

You guys :
Do your best to stay healthy. I never did like the idea of falling and getting hurt so I haven't had that problem very many times.

Well, no more broken bones. I see my cardiologist tomorrow to go over my upcoming cardiac catheterization (at least this one will be through the wrist and not through the groin. I hated those) to see if they're going to try laparoscopic or chest cracking to replace the aortic valve. Apparently, my body parts are out of warranty.  hdslp

I've only had 2 heart catheterizations. The 1st was before my triple bypass and they did it through both the wrist and groin. The wrist one looks at the right side of the heart better than the groin one does, they said. It's to check the lung portion and see if there is pulmonary hypertension.
The 2nd one was only through the wrist to check out the bypasses and place 2 stents. None of them bothered me much.

Funny thing about the "chest cracking" is it never bothered me afterwards. No pain that a couple of Tylenols wouldn't take care of. In fact, if it weren't for my clotting problem allowing a lung to fill up with leaking blood, I would have had almost no pain.

The nurses said that was common with old fogeys while the young ones experienced more pain. I told them it was because the younger generations have just been spoiled their whole lives.

Good luck for your procedure.

Hanshi

Absolutely, my wishes are for great results on the procedures.  My wife had a heart valve installed laparoscopically several months ago.  She had a stroke a few weeks prior to that, hence the valve to lessen the chances of another.

It's been quite a few months since I fell on my face in the street and ended up at the ER.  I passed out briefly and only knew I'd fallen when I lifted my head and saw the blood.  I still have some ramifications from it.  The right knee is very sore from my fall in the basement a couple of weeks ago.  All in all I think I'm maybe the luckier one of us.  It took me over a couple dozen falls to finally get to the "BIGGIE" and that was the scariest one of all.

The morphine pills have really taken my mind off the back pain for the first time in 15 years.  Helps me sleep but I do feel a bit more "draggy" through the day.  I can no longer go hunting so these posts of successes are so vicariously thrilling they should never stop.
While we're on the "falling soapbox" with our confessions of carelessness we must not forget ILLNESSES such as mentioned by Badger. DON'T GET SICK AND DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO STAY HEALTHY.
