do any of yall know anything about dowsing or water witching... im really intrested in this old time practise and i know there are many oldtimers still practicing..  might be able to finally find that jugs hiding spot..

yeah, many claim it to be a hoax but an evansville man was called to use his practice to locate more than water, a church commisioned him to fin lost graves, and he found them everytime.. one of these days these science "experts" are gonna relize that they missed a few things. these are the same ijits who claim we all came from apes.. of course with some i wonder.. ever been to a kentucky state fair!!

Ain't hard to do.  The fork of a peach tree is the typical rod.  But two pieces of wire like coat hangers will work.  Bend them into an "L" shape, hold the short end loosely in each hand.  Walk around until the two wires cross each other.  X marks the spot.  If you want to experiment and you have septic field line system, walk over them holding one wire.  It should turn and align with the lines as you walk over them.  Worked for me anyway.

  I have done it many times. The wires work great for finding the location of the water but I havent been able to find the depth with that method. When using the wires have them staright and have just one end with the L shaped bend on it.  Hold your hands loose like you have a broom handle in them rather than a thin wire--this will allow the wires to move freely. When you start out have them aiming straight out in front of you and they will cross when you get to where the water is--and like Bear Medicine said, X marks the spot where the water starts. You can even find your water  and sewer lines this way.
  For finding the dept I use a willow fork that is only about the diameter of a pencil as it can be visible when it shows you whats there. If yo want a fully detailed post on it let me know and I will try to get one on here when I can. But for now I can give you a summary.If you decide to just give it a try and you have any willow or other wetlands type trees in your area they will work for the forked stick. Make sure the forks are of equal size and length with the forks about 12-14 inches and the main stem about 16-18 inches. Hold the forked stick by the ends of the 2 forks and walk to where the water is. When the stick starts bouncing you know you are at the spot. Back away and re-enter the spot and count the times the stick bounces. Do this again and you will be able to tell the depth of the water. The reason for re-doing it is so you get an accurate count on the bounces. You can also just wait in the same spot for the stick to re-activate, but this may take a few extra seconds. It will noticeably bounce on its own when you are over the water and each bounce is equal to 3 ft down to the water.
  You can also get a better idea of where there is water by looking at the trees--not just those that are wetlands trees but almost any tree will tell you if there is water below it. Look at the branches and if you notice some of them have branches that are pointing down more than other trees of the same type in the area--odds are theres water under it. Witching is real and I have made a fair amount of money at it at times when people wanted to find out if they had water on there land. The well drillers here on the iron range hate it when I tell them they are drilling in the wrong spot and will have to go deeper through the bedrock to hit water there when they can hit it closer to the surface a short distance away..
You can also locate underground wires with the 2 wire method.

I was skeptical till I saw it done and then was invited to try it myself. Now when I need to find water lines, sometimes even underground cables of one sort or another, the first thing I try is "witching" them with two L-shapes wires. Clotheshanger wire works great.

Never tried witching an actual underground stream or pool, or a grave for that matter, but I have no doubt it would work.

I have heard multiple arguments for why witching and dowsing don't actually work, that they just "seem" to for a variety of reasons, but my bottom line is that when you witch a line or water or whatever and you find it -- that constitutes having worked. The lengths some folks will go to, to defend their own disbelief, are really quite amusing sometimes.

wow thanks voy and everyone who has given advice.. i gotta try this!! ive been told not everyone can do it, so if it works for me yall be the second to hear about it, the first will be ma, she will flip she the one who first told me about it, and has seen it done before.  im sure by now you can tell most of my family is as special as i am!!

They actually claim we and the apes share a common ancestor, way further back than either species. No matter. Looking around at the majority of the human race, I would have to rate the comparison as an insult to apes.

KY-- its true that not everyone can do it but most of those who cant is because they do not have faith in it or have a poor teacher.  I have charted out the underground river at my brothers place and we are thinking about sinking a sandpoint into it if we dont hit any ledgerock on the way to it. That way we can use it to water his garden.
No matter how many times you show some people they will remain nay sayers and wont believe it is real.I have met plenty like that and have fun making them look like fools each time I find water and dig a well to it and get plenty of water from it. Some of them have made themselves look like fools about a half a dozen times and some even more than that before they finally either concede defeat or just wont play the game anymore.
Once you get it you can have a blast with it and make some extra cash as well. Seems theres not many of us around anymore who know how to do it--at least up here where I live.

would be nice to have this skill and bring in a little cash, but mostly it would be great for my personal use, not to mentiuon keeping the practice alive for future generations, your right not many left, ive heard used to nearly every community had someone who could do it to find wells and such now, most never even heard of it.
