if you liked that movie, i think you would also like on entitled the mountain men, starring charleton heston, as mt man bill tyler. in my opinion its a little bit better than j.j. due to its more acurate representation of life in that era. the scenes of the rendezvous was especialy cool! find it and watch it i think you might just like it! wtch wtch wtch

It's a fantastic movie...

Head's up!  I bought a dvd copy of it about a week ago at dollar general for $5

Don't know if all of them carry it now, but it may be worth a look.

beowulf

another great film set in that era is sacred ground , well worth watching ,if you can find a copy . most existing copies are on vhs , it was released on dvd in 2003 , but I`m not willing to pay $75 for a used edited version ! if you get the chance watch it !

FrankG

Sacred Ground was filmed just NW of me about 1/2 hours drive . A local ML shop made a lot of the outfits for it .

thmbsup Who woulda thought Brian Keith would make a good mountain man.lol His charachter was the perfect match to Sir Heston's.
"GOD made man and Sam Colt made em equal"
Well, you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?

Bulldog lady

Got them both jj and mt men,  have about worn them out thru the years  Checked out the clothing on Mt men the other day, Tyler wore leathers, shirts, green frocks,   both great shows. agree mt men probabily more correct but both darn good watching PC or not,  esp with garbage they call movies today!

beowulf

lets not forget, man in the wilderness ,based on the story of hugh glass ! they for some reason changed his name to bass , and screwed up several details ,but over all interesting film !

Red Badger

"The table is small signifying one prisoner alone against his or her suppressors..."

Go to EBay and look it up. they have it as low as $4.93 + Ship..

By the way, watch when Heston lobs off a shot just to let them know there are still there, Keith gets to close to the pan and on the wrong side to boot... Good thing he had plenty of whiskers....

Bear Medicine

I didn't much care for it.  Bryan Keith stopping to put the butt of his gun on the ground to load while the indians were after him says he never woulda made it as a Mountain Man.  Take a lesson from Daniel Day Lewis in LOTM.

russ

Both interesting movies. Niether one an acurate depiction of the period though.
If I had to choose I would go with the Mountain Men.

kybackwoodsman

i can say that i really like the moutain men, i found my dvd copy at the local dollar general here in ky.  seen it in a few other DG in surrounding areas.. if anyone intrested i can get them a copy for alot less than 75.  i think it goes for about 5-10 dollars locally and on dvd. let me know.
