The Mountain men is a good watch, but we were talking about "Sacred Ground" being so hard to fine in DVD and so expensive... If anyone finds it reasonable PM me.  Di and I would love a copy....

'SNTY"      .........Hey guys, you may also want to try "Oldies.Com".  They have lots of old movies and music and right cheap.  They also have free print catalogs if you prefer mail.  Check them out; you won't be disappointed.         wtch

all of the movies mentioned are great! Jeremiah Johnson got me interested in muzzle loading, and i have been hooked ever since. an old version of the last of the Mohegans can be seen on hulu, or joost! it's good.

Something overlooked or forgotten about "Jeremiah Johnson" is that it is NOT a story set during the fur trade era. It's set in the years during and after the Mexican War, in other words the second half of the 1840's and possibly toward the end in the early 1850's. In that context the fixation on Hawkens, even though not a single rifle in the film was actually a Hawken ROFL, becomes a little more PC, and if you just ignore the references to his and other characters' guns as Hawkens and look at them as plain halfstocked trade rifles -- there were plenty of such guns floating around the west by the end of the 1840's.

More importantly, IMHO, while it's fashionable to snub both "Jeremiah Johnson" and the 1993 version of "Last Of The Mohicans" for their numerous historical mistakes, both films did a huge lot toward bringing people into this sport. I grew up loving the Fess Parker versions of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, but by 1993 I'd almost completely forgotten how much I wanted a "Kentucky rifle" and to be a frontiersman, when I was a kid. My wife at the time and I had a few hours to kill in Flagstaff, AZ and went to the movies more for S&G's than anything else, and "Last Of The Mohicans" was what was playing. I've never looked back. I know it got a lot of details wrong and I know "Jeremiah Johnson" was even worse, but, really, when I watch them, I'm hugely entertained and couldn't care less about constant references to ".50 caliber Hawkens" (with brass furniture) or "Chief Joseph Brant's field" (at a time when Joseph Brant was all of four years old). They're movies, they're fun, and they tend to make the eyes of young and old shooters light up with the desire to go buy a "Hawken" or a long rifle and burn some powder.

And that, friends, is some accomplishment in itself. thmbsup

I agree there is something magical about any black powder gun going off on the silver screen.... Every time I see a movie with one in it I have to get mine out so I can smell the powder!

And i have even had some of the people i hang out with express an interest in the sport when we discuss movies like these, so naturally I invite them up to the house to try one fro themselves

i have to admit, it was davey crockett with fess parker that got me all stired up years ago, and then mom brought hom a "coonskin" cap that just made things worse.  i also have to admit when i sit down to watch these movies or any movie that has a ole smokepole rifle in it, i gotta hold on to mine.. just ask my family.     also another good movie to watch is follow the river.  its set in the blue ridge mountians, i believe pre rev. war.  mostly not much shooting, but alot of country and native lifestyle. good one to watch with your special woman.

ok just got em in.. i got 5 copies of sacred ground, they are copies made from the original which was in great condition.  right now all ive got is 5 copies of it so they kinda limited.

and what might ye be askin for a copy ?  ;D

kybackwoodsman

well technically its illegal to e selling copied dvds... but i dont think that theres a problem with bartering or trading with them.... honestly i dont really know what they are worth so i dont know what to ask.  but believe me its gonna be alot cheaper than $75 for a copy.

ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL yeah that price was kinda insane !
