the other muzzleloading forum i belong to decided to limit my activity by not allowing me to post topics or reply to topics just because i posted a link to my new website wow

hungryjohn

Well, I guess you know where not to sell.

Micanopy

Yeah they do that all the time.

You must be a member on at least a couple other forums besides this one. You're a member at The Border Camp and no one that I know of has banned you from posting or replying there.

Seems awful harsh considering they could have just asked you to remove it -- or removed it themselves. Even if they have a posted rule against what you did, busting someone's butt over one infraction is a bit much.

Hammerhead

micanopy how long should it take befor they let me back on

Hammerhead

it was the traditional muzzleloader one and now im really mad because i had a great deal lined up a trade a beautiful native american flute like i wanted for a sash and they deleted the post befor the guy replied and idk how to get ahold of him

DEADDAWG

who was it? I still have access there even though I rarely go there.

I think I know which one you are talking about and they do not allow passive marketing, which is subject to being banned for a short while, although I don't know how long that is for.

Anywhere from 7 to 30 days if I recall correctly. I dont spend much time over there anymore, to many experts and legends in thier own minds.

Funny, John Curry has a column in the latest "Muzzle Blasts" on the need to bring young families and young people into the sport. He admits flat-out he has no concrete ideas how to go about that. Much has been tried, little has worked.

However, the legends in their own minds, the uber-purists who have no tolerance for anyone they consider to be on a lower level of knowledge than themselves, are a striking example of how NOT to go about it. The kindest thing I've heard said about "that" forum (and a couple of others) is that you can learn quite a bit there -- if you're wise enough to not call attention to yourself, or aggravate anyone who can't have their time wasted by the thoughts and mistakes of newbies.

I can think of absolutely nothing I need to know that is worth putting up with the attitude that one picks up on every time "that" forum is mentioned. The members there may think they're accomplishing something outstanding and noble, preserving the heritage and artistic integrity of this sport, but in actuality, over the long haul, they'll be one of the primary reasons for its demise. There are too many other demands on a family's and an individual's time, and too many other places and ways to enjoy oneself, to have to put up with even a relatively small number of self-important jerks.

Even if I weren't personally offended by stories like Hammerhead's -- and make no mistake, as someone who cares more about the future of this sport than about any number of lofty-minded thread counters, I AM offended, and very much so -- as a matter of principle I would avoid "that" forum like the plague it is. Kris is a good kid with a sincere interest in what we're doing, here, and to smack him upside the head for an infraction of their precious rules is about the worst thing those people could have done.

i have no clue who the guy was who was gonna make the flute for me thats whats bothering me because its something i really wanted and they deleted the post so i do not  recall the mans name

Red Badger

I totally agree with Mike.  Thats one reason we have the 5 post minimum before you can post in the for sale/trade areas... We want people to learn and ask questions - I live by the creedo "the only stupid question is the one NOT asked"

If someone asks a question which has already been discussed in detail we will refer them to that thread (another reason why we don't delete old threads) and if they are looking for prices we have all the sold items in the archives so they can see what similar items sold for...

On occasion I may move something to another area where it fits better or modify a post to reflect some point but I do not delete any post other than the occasional flame or one in violation of our rules, and if I do i usually try and send a pm to the individual letting them know why I do what I do.  If I jump the gun or use poor judgement and the concerned individual objects to what i did I send the matter up the booshways for discussion and go along with the majority decision.  I am only human and will listen to all of you if you disagree with one of my judgments.

Thank you all for helping to keep this site free of the sentiments show in the "other sites" referred to above.  And if you have not done so yet go check out the Border camp - Mike and his crew run a fine site!
"The table is small signifying one prisoner alone against his or her suppressors..."

thmbsup Thanks, Jim. Actually, though, it's "Dan and his crew" -- my involvement is solely that of "Enforcer". Dan and Rev make the site work, Frank and Bruce keep an eye on things. I'm just the bad-tempered "muscle" when that sort of thing is needed. ROFL

If you saw the 5'9", 160 pounds of me, you'd understand why the use of the term "muscle" rates a hearty ROFL.

Kris did you guys PM, or email each other? Can you at least get to your own posts on that site?

I agree with Mongrel and Red Badger. It is so easy to find something quick and easy to do for entertainment these days. It is hard to get people interested in black powder and dressing the part. My personal experience with this is as such. My brother-in-law tried for years to get me to do bp with him. I always said, "It's to much work just to shoot a gun". Once i went and tried it, I WAS HOOKED!! Since then I tell everyone and try and get them out to watch or to try it themselves..
The future of the sport looks bleak at times. Everyone started as a newbie. Nobody should jump in with both feet. It does cost money to do this. Let them start how they want , as long as they start!!!
