Started on my currant build back in October, my take on a American militia musket using a .62/20ga Ken Netting 42 inch round tapered barrel, and a Chamber's early Ketland lock. Due to more important priorities I just haven't had the time I normally spend on building so it's been a "get to it when I could" build. Now that holidays are over I hope to spend more time in the shop and get this project finished up. I finished getting it rough shaped this afternoon after getting the Christmas decorations down and packed away until next year.
I hadn't sen you post in a while. Glad you're back at it.
Looking forward to this(drooling) wtch
santa hi: good to see you back at it, ....Tom
You're back, you're building, everything is back in balance. Good to see you again.
Thanks everyone. I haven't really been gone just off track for awhile. Anyway, I'll try to be more active this winter. thmbsup

Did you get with Ken? I'm still not taking orders and I have 3 more in the shop I need to build when this build is complete. I may have a couple flintlocks for sale late summer or fall. (susp)
;D Glad your back and at it.

No Fred, I. Have not gotten back to him. I think I am going to leave my 40 a flinter after all.....looking at other avenues for a southern rifle in percussion.
Nothing worth photos but I did manage to get the vent liner in this morning as well as making and soldering a lug for a sling swivel, front sight and started filing the rear sighting channel.
While I'm waiting on a small parts order to come in I started to refine the lock and wrist areas. Still need to make a side plate and the swivels but it's getting to that point where I need to go back and reevaluate it every day or so and fine tune something I missed.
Sit down and stay around awhile this time.
Got my sling swivels made and put on, trigger guard installed and the sideplate made.
Man, that's going to be a "Stunner" when finished. thmbsup

Thank you, I plan on ageing it and it will be my period events gun.

Man that looks good. thmbsup
as usual a fine job ! thmbsup
That is looking mighty good !
Looks great. You always do a great job.
I have some builds to start and it's nice to see how others go about it. Haven't built from scratch so it takes away some of that (I'm going to mess up my wood) feeling. Thanks for the posts
Sorry for the poor photos, but you get the Idea...got the stock stained, first application of linseed oil and a start on finishing the metal.
Well it's finished other than installing the sling and swivels as soon as I get the sling made and a bit more aging with a few more beauty marks.
thmbsup nice piece of work !
Ready for the field! hntr
thmbsup Nice! What a Beauty! I like that you set her up for a sling too! thmbsup
Something is bothering me about the line at the top at the rear part of the butt. Is that an incipient crack that is being reinforced by metal hardware or (hopefully) just a deep grain line?
She is a beauty, no doubt.

it does look like a starting crack , but I`ve seen similar marks that turned out to be nothing !

It was checking that emerged as I shaped the butt, I injected it with wood glue and pins and it is reinforced with the butt plate. It also has some worm hole/tracks that came out along the top of the comb. I built this one for my personal use so I decided to finish it with a aged finish instead of pitching it.
Very, very nice! thmbsup
