When I was on the U.P. I attempted at least twice to wrap some biscuit dough around a green stick and cook it over the flames.....both times, it slowly unwound, dropped into the fire, and burned alive.....frustrated, I just took a couple globs of dough and threw them into the skillet which was still hot with bacon grease, flipped them twice, and ended up with one of the tastiest biscuits to mop up my egg yolks I have ever had. Kinda of a hybrid of fry bread, biscuits, and a pancake I guess.....but they sure hit the spot.

In a wood bowl mix one egg, 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup milk, and a little yeast, mix to a stiff dough, let rise under a towel, (I put my hat over it and it worked awesome, plus kept the bugs off) after it has risen.....(in theory wrap around a stick).....but I think I prefer the bacon grease more now. :)

I tried it with store bought bread sticks & poked the stick through both ends. You can also just run the stick up the middle...

Only over night rondy have attended, had the sausage gravy made but not sure how gonna do the biscuits,  new friend we made had just cooked up some bacon and said he fried his biscuits , so we threw the tube of grands, (one at a time) and they just fluffled up like my grandma's old donuts,  scooped the gravy on um , and had a good breakfast besides didn't have to fire up one big enought to do the traditional dutch oven, last day and waiting for the dew to dry off afore tearing down camp.  not sayin they lower the colesterol but they sure filled/fixed the moment.

Opal's Sourdough Chocalate Cake...Recieved from 'old' lady in Salmon Idaho in 1976 when she learned we were spending winter in a cabin up on Moose Creek.
....Opal had been a camp cook at a mining camp down the Salmon river in the teens (pre 1920) and had lots of neat stories.
....It's a real shame that at the time, my brother and I didn't think to record some of them..they are now lost forever!!
Starter:
1-2 cups milk
cover with cheese cloth
Let stand 2 days.
Add equal amount flour-blend
leave at room temp. for 12-24 hours until bubbly (may need to place in warm place) Keep in cool place when not in use. Recharge with milk and flour.

Cake:
1 1/2 cups flour *     *mix separately and let rise 3 hrs.*       mix the rest separately and add after 3 hrs.
1 cup water *                                                                1 cup sugar      3 sq. chocolate (melted)
1/4 cup powdered milk *                                                  2 eggs             1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cu starter *                                                             1/2 cup margarine or shortening (she liked bear grease)
                                                                                  1 1/2 tsp soda    1 tsp vanilla

DO NOT PREHEAT OVEN ( THIS WILL KILL STARTER TO SOON)
Bake at 350 degrees untill done ( no time given as it varies with elevation)

How's this for an old timey recipe??
