A good dream changes as time goes by, sometimes to the future sometimes to the past... as of right now I have a rifle or musket to carry appropriate to any time from about 1722 to present wit a small gap of maybe 25 years... from my brown bess to my Hawken's percussion, then jumping into the WW 1 and forward area...  I still dream about owning a rifle that as I understand it could be muzzleloaded, or breech loaded using a paper cartridge.  I think it was a buffalo gun maybe an early sharps or something... heard about it once in passing....   the idea was the paper for the cartridge was expensive and hard to find so you could still muzzleload to keep expenses down....

Situations as well as minds do change.  I do own the basic battery that satisfies everything from small game to large game.  They are all rather plain and completely unadorned as befits one whose wallet is incurably light.  So a dream rifle would have to be a piece that one can't afford although the future is unknowable.  So here goes my "dream".

An early Lancaster with a Chambers early Germanic lock, a 42" x .54 swamped Rice barrel with radius rifling, a curly maple stock (doesn't have to be standout, just nice), A bit of engraving on the brass patchbox, side plate, trigger guard and a hunter's star & vent pick inlays on the butt stock.  A fair amount of relief carving on the butt stock & behind the breech.  Incised carving suitable to the entire stock.

Now all that's needed is for Satan to suffer from frost bite.  :mini-devil-28492:

Well the apes at Fed Ex broke the Frisian between the pan cover and the pivot pin  panic   panic  so pictures and shooting will have to wait. Steve Zitn has already filed a claim so I'll see how good Fed Ex service really is.  wtt wtt

Ouch, ouch ouch. At least that sounds like something readily reparable without any effect on the overall rifle. Was that the only thing that was damaged?
I am the one your mom warned you about!

I would like to have a Rifle/Gun like my 5th Great Grandfather carried on the first recorded Long hunt in1760/1761...But I don't know just what it would have looked like or type common for use in those days... Jagger...Perhaps or a Smooth Bore ... or some kind of Transional type.....????

I guess I'm lucky because I've only experienced a broken flint cock (once) courtesy of the shippers.

That's all I could see everything else looks good to me, Fed Ex picked up the lock Friday so it's on the way to Steve.
