Not sure bout an easy way. I am trying to learn Ojibwe as well as french. Things are going slow, but they are going.  I am working on getting back to my ancestral routes-even though my native blood is not ojibwe, it is still a step in the right direction for me,and am loving every minute of it.

Voy, if you find an easy way to learn the french let me know!  my persona is an american unter/trapper in the upper midwest (ie Wisconsin) in 1800- 1820 and I would have been in dealing with a lot of the french trappers.. So would have ot be able to communicate with them!

  Jim,
I have tried the cassettes and CD's for learning french, and it is not fast nor easy. They speak so fast on them that I have a hard time keeping up, but I have found that if I add a french to english dictionary to add with it, I can get it easier.  Thing is, ya have canadian french and the you have french type french. There is a big difference. I would recommend doing a combination of the tapes, dictionary, as well as maybe a canadian news paper that is in french. Also look at some of the old canadian records for additional old french language as it has changed over time as well.

I've often thought of learning both French and Ojibwe. The reason hasn,t really got much to do with my personna. I haven't really worked that one out yet. But my Great, Great Grandfather was a French Canadian trapper that married an Ojibwe woman.  Of couse he couldn't just go for any pretty girl. He had to marry the chief's daughter.

Always though it would be fun to learn more about how they lived.
