I have been making my own over power wads for a while now. With coupon i bought a hollow punch set for 3.50 from Harbour Fright Tools not the best but not bad. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=3838
Last week i was at a Orchard Supply Store and found a 1/2 inch arch punch made by the General Tool Co. for 12.00. http://www.generaltools.com/Products/12-Arch-Punch__1271E.aspx

The 1/8 wool felt i buy from Duro-Felt you can buy a piece 12 inches by 54 inches for 16.00 shipped. http://www.durofelt.com/image_26.html

I punched 7/16 wads for my 44 Cap and Ball revolvers and 1/2 wads for my 50 cal. rifle. But found 1/2 wads worked well for the revolvers as well as the rifle. So now i just make one size. For lube i use Crisco or Bore Butter but you could use any lube you wanted too.

I am a revolver shooter too.  The do-it-your self wads sure save a lot over the store bought ones from Ox-Yoke.  I used to just shoot with crisco over the chamber even though it was a great mess.  Didn't bother me much the occasional multiple chain fires untill the day I fired off three shots from my Walker Dragoon.  The bullets went one down the barrel, and one out either side.  It was the strangest recoil, the pistol jerked forward insted of barrel flip upward.  Turns out the ball out the left side hit the wedge causeds the forward jerking of the pistole.  Have used felt wads ever since................Bullfrog

I also make my own wads for my Ruger Old Army .45 cal..

I also use my own lube mix..

It's not what tool you use to hunt with.
It's that you use the tool Legally and Ethically

I have to make wads too. Smoothbore .484. Kind of odd size, but that was the closest larger size reamer I had when I needed to smooth out and old 43cal. barrel that was shot out and bent. Reamed and straightened and now shootable.
