you know what they dont tell you is, in june of 1847 the United States Marine Corps was marching to Gov. Pio Pico's "mansion" when in the battle for Los Angeles (occured in the whitter narrows) the Marine Corps kicked the mexican arym's butt. Gov. Pico turned the territory of california of to the Marines, who in turn held on to it for 6 months before turning it over to the U.S. Government.
