heres a place to start working on native attire. http://www.crazycrow.com/store/ they have low top moccasin kits that arent to expensive. you need to decide what region you would have been trapping in and then find out what native tribes were there. i can recommend a gal to make the leggins. shes making this outfit for me right now.

check the crazy crow link! the have fur hat patterns. and much much more! this is the first place i check for alot of things! both native and fur trade/mountain man era

Crazy Crow does have fur hats. :)  Not that I don't like yours it just doesn't fit the character you want to portray.

Dryball

Thank you Heather....which kinds of fur hats fit in? The coonskin or skunkskin of Hollywood...or something else?

kit_carson

get a pattern get a couple of furs and make one! heres a place to buy furs. http://www.chichesterinc.com/index.htm

Dryball

This better for a shooting bag?

heatherhistorian

Personally, I prefer a felt hat. But, yes, the hollywood kind are what people use.

There isn't a picture?  I will check again when I get back from working outside.  I had a friend who took a beautiful leather bad and used a hammer on it to make holes and scuff it up.  Seems sacrilegious, but it looked more like what they would have had.

Dryball

Which horn and which knife?

kit_carson

middle horn and carry both knives

Ironwood

Ned, here's a painting by Alfred Jacobs Miller.  He lived and painted during the time period of the Mountain Man and  Trappers.  His paintings and sketches are not all that detailed but you can get the feel of the person he's painting.

Can just see me wearing that in sunny California. ROFL I'd either be laughed out of the rendezvous or rushed to the nearest emergency room with heat prostration! noway

You would definately have a heat stroke.  You definately don't want to wear that leather coat. :)  I think that is closer for the bag, but you probably want something without the scallopy looking stuff.  Straight lines...Do you want to beat that bag up?   Think dirty, scruffy out in the woods for months on end kinda guy. :)  You are getting there. Like the knives by the way. thmbsup

If you go with the fur hat, go with just the hat not a full drape Two reasons.
1 A full drape wae used more for cerimonies and is a royal pain to try and get
thought and kind of brush.
2 The sull drape is good only at 0 or below
All gave some Some gave all

Think I may prefer the slouch hat....makes more sense to me.
