Thanks a bunch Crow. I'll look into getting one once my new bow gets here and I sell my Appollo longbow. I can't wait to get this all figured out and done. I'm gonna do my best to fill that freezer.  ;D

LOL, Leather...I will check the pawn shops, and I "promise" I won't go inline... :D

Be sure to check out the link section of the board so you can find exactly the type rifle you want and get the best price.  The Lyman kits are very well made and are at least 95% complete so they are a good choice for a newbie, plus all the work you do towards finishing it allow you to add that personal touch.  After that you can always trade up so to speak, but they a very good quality and will serve you a lifetime.  Track of the Wolf, The Possibles Shop, Midsouth, Dixie Gun Works and the Log Cabin Shop would all be good places to look for a completed rifle.
You should also look into the gunshops that allow you to customize and get the features that you want while still allowing you to do some of the finish work should you choose to do so.

Wow William, now there are some choices! I'll need to learn a lot more before I understand what all of the choices are. I was reading some of the stuff on your link and got confused pretty fast...lol I may call them and ask some questions tomorrow.

Why don't I ever look before stepping into the rabbit hole...lol The more I see, the more I want. The more I want, the more I see...lol

Thanks man!

It's good that you are willing to ask questions, you'll be an informed customer and have a firm idea of what you do and don't want.

It is addicting, and I have to rein myself in sometimes as well, having to remember that as cool as they may be I can't eat them.  hdslp

Thanks man!

You are welcome, take your time and enjoy yourself, and of course, post your results.

Well my trade fell through. The guy wanted a longbow with 4-5 more #, so I put it in the classifieds here.

That's too bad.  Hope you get another deal going.

Del Snavely, you might keep and eye out for guns shows in your area.

All good advice. And do check your local pawn shops, ya just never know what you will find. Kit guns, especially the Lymans, are a great way to go. You can semi customize it as far as finish and you will allways have the pride of having assembled it yourself.

I found a Lyman GPR flinter for a good price. The guy said he will hold it for a little while. Now all I have to do is sell my longbow.

Thanks all!
Del

squirrel

I have a Pedersoli Frontier from Cabelas .45cal, and a .50cal. both Flinters.
They were cheap and I have shot many a squirrel and a deer with the .45

Don't think I will go back to percussion.
Flint is way too much fun..

Find something and go for it.

Well I sold the bow and the guy is puttin' a MO in the mail today. Should have my Lyman GPH in a couple weeks or so.

I also had a friend bring me an 1850 LLipietta .36 revolver this weekend. This pistol has a history between my friends and I. I traded a trolling motor for it a long time ago. Then traded it to this friend for a sterio for my daughter. Now he gave it back to me for part of a trade. It came almost full circle...lol Ya never know, I may trade it again. I'm just no good with pistols. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside...lol

I sure can't wait to get my flinter!

OH, and crow, you sure had it right, these things are addicting. I ain't even got one yet and I want another... hdslp

Now all I need is a .36 fer rabbits and a fowler. Ya like THAT'S all I'll want... ROFL

Yep.  Most of the meat is in the legs anyway.  So either a head shot or smack through the middle from the side (then pick up the two ends). :-&
I used to shoot rabbit with my .54 -- used a really light powder charge (about 30 grains).  Made a big hole but not much damage otherwise.
