Do we have any Black Powder Cannon shooters here ? Anyone here interested in them ? Ever think of making one to touch off on Forth of July ?

I would love to have one.  One of my coworkers has a .75  that's about 14" long and says he loves it.  I want a much bigger one than that.

Ohh I'd love to have one.Probably get in trouble with it on the 4th though.Bad enough gettin the bottlerockets out later in the night. On second thought could you imagine a bunch of unsuspecting intoxicated people sittin around and then BOOOOM.Oh now I really want one.

I have two barrels from years ago that I am going to shorten and rebuild some time and am curious how many of the "bigger the better" bunch is around to bounce ideas back and forth with .
Nothin like a big loud boom rumble echoing off through the trees  devel

Old Salt and I have a friend who has a carriage gun.  It is a blast in more than one way.  We shoot it with wad only when in at  the museum and with a load in when in the country.  Love it!  I really like to blow stuff up. HaHa!

Planning on building a 2 1/2 in bore canon soon if all goes well.  thmbsup

The canon we get to play with has a 2" bore and about 34 in barrel. We shoot 2-4 oz of 1 f out of it. Another friend has one mounted on a field carriage that is a lot of fun. There is one  down side to having a canon and that is they will take group adults and turn them into 8-10 yr olds in a heart beat

Here we go again. I think it a good time to add a safety warning here
A canon is fired from the side and NOT the rear!
The one that our club plays with, using 2 oz 1f  and tp for wadding will come back about 5 ft and take you off at the ankles, if you load it with shot or ball and 4 oz 1f it will come up off the ground 2-3 ft and land about 10 ft back.
You can not run backward fast enough to get out of the way.
This warning comes to you form the one of the been there done that crowd
Now back to our regally  scheduled program

Maybe we need to get some shooting instructions on cannon and sticky them.
Might save my ankles one day

A friend made one years ago, we used to shoot it where I worked.  He once laid a rifle on the ground behind it, when he fired it it backed over the rifle stock and broke it at the wrist.  A lesson learnd!  Always wanted a ships swivel gun thouth.

If your just going to shoot blanks on hollidays you can put some steel wool on top of your powder charge.  When fired it glows a nice red orange.  best if done at night.

Think it was DGW catalogs years ago that used to describe using coffee cans of concrete for projectiles. Could the concave bottom on adult beverage cans be used as a hollow base?

I built a full size 6 pdr light field gun about 8 years ago, 60" tube, 3.25 bore, 54" diameter wood spoke wheels. oak twin trail. I sold it a few years back but I'll see if I can find some pictures and scan them.
