Scott & Cathy Sibley's book Recreating the 18th Century Powder Horn, along with building the horn has some good details on scrimshaw.  The back of the book has some scrimshaw design along with fonts.

I don't know of any sort of scrimshaw "kit".  If you have a scrap horn, get something to engrave with and start practicing.  I use a xacto knife.  You have to get a "feel" of what the horn will allow you to do.  There are hard and soft areas on the horn, along with a grain.  It just takes practice, practice and more practice.

Hmm, Scrimshaw for Dummies...I don't recall seeing that one Ray. ROFL

If you find one raymond let me know. Eventually I would like to try scrim. But For now I need to practice makeing just regular powder horns before start making fancy ones. LOL      Jeco

Powderhorns and more offer a kit. Good folks to deal with. I buy all my horns from them...

I'D LIKE TO SEE PHOTOS OF THE COMPLETE PROCESS. THAT'D MAKE A PURDY GOOD "HOW TO" FER THE REST OF US.

Just a suggestion, go back thru previous posts under scrim section, you will see some awesome finished products and lots of useful info on how to's.  We have some VERY talented, modest (kinda), folks here,  good luck and post any picts of your work.  Good luck
