Who here has more guns than they actually need ?   ... besides me.
If ya had to go with just one BLACKPOWDER/FRONT STUFFER...
what one  would it be ... it kan be one ya have or one ya want ?????
Mine would be one of my 36 flintlocks ... they would do the beat all around for me... if I had to go law abidun'   50 cal poor boy flinter .
  Lets hear some viewpoints ...

bwhoffman

I would have to go with my .40
Granted its a drop in barrel for my TC, so I would ultimately like to see it in a different chunk of wood, that would fit me better and probably full stock length.

but I trust its ability, know it and know how to shoot it!

an amazing caliber!

little jim

While I see good in all calibers and I like small ones the bestes. Factorin in stoppin(or harvesting) 2 and 4 legged varmits while not depleting my ball and powder stash to fast. It's the .45 for me !!

fd-ems-emt

If I had only one choice,
It would be my .45 cal Flinter..

That would cover all game from Squirrel to Deer...

It's not what tool you use to hunt with.
It's that you use the tool Legally and Ethically

44/45 Caliber rifles surely will do a varity of tasks ... no good for groundhogs
they just bounce off ... no good at all.
not good to shoot at groundhogs ... badddd mojo.  Karma goes sour...

:-\ Maybe soo.  But not as bad as what happens to the poor little varmit.. ;D

I would have to go with the 40 cal that I have yet to build . Barrel is in the blank and rest of parts are waitin on me to put em in. Will be southern iron mounted flaver with single stage dbl set triggers .

mongrel

If I could continue using a .22 for tree fleas, I'd stick with my .50 flinter. If it really came down to one gun and one only -- I'd likely build a .45 to replace the .50 but wouldn't be in any great hurry. I see a whole lot more meat on the hoof than performing circus acrobatics in the treetops.

RoaringBull

Well, right now I would take the only one I have that belongs to me, my .50 Kentucky flinter, but when I get the .54 done I may change my mind.

Would like to have me a .36 flinter too someday

me too

and mongrel are you disgruntle towards squirrels?

mongrel

Disgruntled with them? Not at all. They're a kick to watch while you're waiting for deer -- and if you move or make enough noise to get them chattering, whose fault is that? I know some hunters get irritated with them, which is why they're called "tree fleas" or "tree rats" around here, but me calling them that doesn't mean much of anything.

The property I hunt most often isn't a real big draw for squirrels, for whatever reason, so all I was saying was, I wouldn't be in any big hurry to trade my deer rifle for a more all-around gun.

karwelis

i would want the one i'm workin on right now! .54cal swamped barrel c wieght Issac Haines!

karwelis

it the one in front, should be ready to shoot in a couple of weeks!

RoaringBull

think you may have to ship that to Texas for that critical breaking-in period, then off to Maryland for the Woodchuck "ofishul inspekshun"!

Cool looking cat,too.
