Any Ideas on lightening the main trigger pull on my new build
The parts are an L&R Durrs Egg percussion lock and Davis #4 double set trigger Works fine when set just very heavy using only the front trigger?

Mr Woodchuck

May be the nature of that set trigger ... I bett Frank kould help ya out on this ...

Or there may be an adjustment on the lock tumbler. I have a few flintlocks that have a set screw to adjust how much the tumbler engages on the sear.

Chaffa Hosa

No adjustment screw on the lock
I may have to hone the sear and or tumbler
Just waiting on the pros to weigh in

Jerry polish the sear and where it engages in the trigger if the lock does not have ajustment, but use 1000 wet and dry just a very lite polish makes all the difference and when you are finished back of the ajusting screw for the set trigger and ajust till both set and unset work safley.
bernie :)

check the depth of sear engagement in tumbler. The bottem of sear should be at bottem of bottem edge of tumbler notch. Also you can lighten the sear spring ,they are quite heavy, the leaf that touches the sear can be thinned top to bottem in thickness . Do so lengthways and polish all file marks or it will break. Work slow a little at a time , it needs enough tesion to reliably reset in notches. Also hone engagements and gently buff on strop loaded with jewelers rouge. Clean er up an oil , shoulda improved a might :)

+1 on what Frank said.

Plus, unfortunately, the front triggers on double-lever set trigger mechanisms have not set records for the quality of trigger pull they provide. In order to perform their primary function (which is to release the rear trigger bar when the mechanism is set), they're neither shaped nor located ideally to be used as single triggers. Frank's suggestions should improve the situation, though. How much will be for the shooter to judge.

Update on this situation
I have lightened the sear spring a little  and carefully honed the face of the sear (It was very rough)
Right now I have silver soldered an extension to the front trigger to remove a lot of the slop and get it at a more suitable angle
I may have to hone some more on the lock after refitting the trigger

OK I got about a 4 pound pull right now will leave it alone until final assembly  ;D
Also got rid of 95% of the creep or take up in the trigger I can live with this just wanted a trigger I could use unset
