revolver shooting for the fun of it.

I have a lot of revolvers I have collected over the years. Lately they have been gathering dust for two reasons. One, I have been focused on my ML rifles because I've been going to matches in Maine the last few years so my range time has been focused on practice for those matches. Second, the cap shortage has kept me from being too enthusiastic about my revolvers. However, my wife is going to be undergoing major heart surgery in the next month or so and caring for her while she recuperates means I probably won't be free to spend a whole day away to attend matches. So that means I'll have to keep things local and brief. This is the perfect situation to dust off my revolvers and shoot them. I am thinking about purchasing another revolver but am at a loss about which one. I have all the common Colt and Remington variants and a Ruger old army. I'm thinking about a Dance and Brothers or a Colt Dragoon. I really wish Pietta was still making the Starr single action because that is one I think is super cool. What would you guys recommend?

I have 6 percussion revolvers. 3 of them are Ruger Old Armies. That's the best recommendation I can give.

I just acquired a Pietta 1861 Navy US Marshal revolver. It is a beauty! I took it to the range today and it performed admirably. It sent a .375 ball down range at 976 fps and made a 2.5 inch group at 12 yards. It needed a little deburring but I am very gratified with my purchase.

I just got a new holster for one of my Ruger Old Army revolvers. I ordered it 10 days ago and got it yesterday. Real good price too.

I've owned and used only two c&b revolvers in the past 61 years and liked them both.  First was the 1858 Remington and was the only one I used on an animate target.  I had bet a friend I could shoot a vulture out of the air, so my street creds were at stake.  Well I did shoot the vulture out of the air to his astonishment.  It's a wonder the bird didn't fall into his open mouth!  Great pistol and I owned it for years.

The second one was a "Rogers & Spencer" that was accurate enough to shoot a 6-shot group barely under 2" at 25 yards off a bench.  Built like a tank and very well made but I found it awkward to handle.  I sold it after a few years.  The one I realy would like is the 1862 Pocket Police.  I wanted something light weight (for a change) to carry into the woods for a "coup de grace" on deer.  Still like them just really need one now.

So for quite a number of years my only pistol has been a .50 flintlock; pretty light but just bulky.

So, Don, where in Maine are you hanging your hat?  It's Kennebec County for us.  The floods sadly washed away our only local grocery but WE are pretty safe on a high ridge overlooking the valley.  skrt

I've worn out 2 brass framed colts. One was a really good shooter and won me a lot of medals. Now I mostly shoot a Remington for target and the others just sit there.
My Rendezvous club does not allow revolvers so I use single shots there.

If the weather co-operates I may take the walker and the brace of remington .44's I have outside tomorrow ( I get Monday and Tuesdays off) and see what kind of damage I can do to some old pizza boxes...  [conf]
