Anyone ever use a wooden powder flask?
On the cheap made one to get me by till I get a nice horn. Oak board scraps a coworker gave me, small piece of brass, and antler stopper. Vigorously rubbed down several times with beeswax.
Hope  it keeps my powder dry.
Tried to upload picture but no luck

some of the earliest powder flasks were made from wood and leather !  so it should work well !

Never even thought of using wood to make a flask. I am interested to see it

I will try again to upload a photo

I've never made a wooden powder flask, but I did make one out of bamboo.  I did this years ago in Virginia where there was lots of river cane and larger bamboo.

This metal flask isn't for powder, of course, but rather something to treat snakebites with.

bamboo grows any where it can put out roots , I live not too many miles from indian steps museum here in pa , just before you get to it there is a huge patch of bamboo growing along the side of the road , several feet tall and some with a 4 or more inch diameter !

Guess i will have to keep a better eye out for it. If Ive seen it here in  western md i havent noticed it or just dont know what Im looking at.

In Virginia there was a stand of bamboo near the house.  Also there was lots of rivercane in our back yard.  I have yet to see any bamboo or rivercane here in New England; weather is just too bad I guess.

Many people mistake rivercane for bamboo.
Bamboo is not native but rivercane is.
My personal opinion is the best crappie (speck) rod is a cane pole made from rivercane. That, a cork, and a wiggly minnow will slay them in the spring.

the problem with bamboo , is ,once you have it , it`s damned near impossible to get rid of it !  an  aunt planted some on her farm in carrol county md , took 15 years to clear it out ! you have to get every bit of root , and it grows so fast , you can actually watch the stuff grow , it`s an invasive plant ! https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/CAES/documents/publications/fact_sheets/forestry_and_horticulture/runningbamboofactsheet2016pdf.pdf

That's the problem we had in Virginia.  The cane was spreading too far so we had someone cut a bunch of stuff and also get rid of the rivercane.  Stuff grows back FAST

The reason is both river cane and bamboo are grasses not trees. It's like trying to get rid of your lawn by mowing it ... an exercise in futility.

Thats all very interesting.i didnt know any of that. Really surprised its a grass
