That being either rifle or smoothbore.  Or, if you're a maverick, pistol.  I'll lead off just to get things rolling.

My best skill has always been as a master class pistol shot.  But as far as hunting and most other uses I've always been a rifleman.  Smooth bores (with shot) just the very lower edges of mediocre.  I've won several awards from pistol matches but only a few with rifles.  Still, my rifle shooting has always been very, very good.  As a cop I was the best (handgun) shot in the department.

But nowadays, looking at 76 this summer, my eyesight has degraded exponentially over the past decade or so.  Shooting tiny groups is in my past with anything even "decent" now being on a rare day when everything clicks into place.

So the rest of you need to "fess up", wake up and bare your souls.  hntr

With my cataracs progressing I am still doing ok with the TG Renegade with the GM .58 barrel but will put the original .54 TC barrel back on it this fall for the hunting season.
The .58 barrel is a patched ball shooter and the .54 barrel only likes Maxi balls which are overkill for deer BUT They end up dead very quickly and I trust the combination. The deer that I shot last year was killed with patched ball from the .58 but I have more trust in the Maxi from using it on deer and elk for so many years in Colorado.

my only real problem when it comes to shooting , is I have to wear an eye patch over my left eye ,  without it , I cant use iron sights or a scope ! one of the great things bells palsy gifted me with !

Hanshi

Oh yes, the eye problems.  I had cataracts fixed years ago but a couple of years ago I had retinal surgery on my dominant eye.  It was very much a long haul situation but in less than 1 year it had healed/recovered as much as it ever would.  There was a blind area in the center which made aiming a guess more than a certainty.  Vision still lousy but at least it is now possible to focus more or less.

you`re lucky , I had bells palsy in 2012 , and it seems the partial paralysis on the left side is permanent !

I had a friend, now deceased, who had a bad shingles attack and was hospitalized for a good while.  He developed Bell's Palsy and had to relearn a few things, walking was just one.  He suffered quite a bit of paralyses and through PT regained most of his abilities.  Shingles is bad stuff.  Is that what caused your problem?

[/quote] no ! mine was caused by stress .our old manager retired , and over the next 2 years we went through 5 new managers  then #6 came for the next 3 years he made everyones life a nightmare , and he picked me out as his prime target because unlike the rest I dont take crap from some damned fool who has no idea what he`s doing , he cut our crew in half , and doubled the work load  . as he put it " there's no reason 4 cant do the job of 8 in the same time and with the same efficiency ! finally the company got a replacement for him , but by then I already had bells palsy and the paralysis , they made the wanker a district manager , the new guy was a great boss , got things done , and did`nt try to force extra work out of a crew that was smaller than it should be ! he was there a year before the bung hole who was the new district manager called him , and told him that if he did not fire me , that he and the assistant manager would both be fired ! he and the assistant apologized , and told me they had no choice in the matter , so I was out of work , couple of months later the manager who was forced to fire me , laid his keys on his desk , walked out of the office and told the front end manager that , he could`nt continue working for the company , it was not a good company , and moved back to florida !  that took place in 2013,   in 2020 I ran into the fool who caused my loss of employment , he said hi  shook my hand and asked how I was doing !  I should have slugged him , but figured he was`nt worth the jail time ! have`nt seen him since ! although I know he`s still with the company , manages a store york pa !  just wonder if he`s learned how to be a decent person !

That's called the "Peter Principle" which is named after the economist who made it famous.  Basically it states that an employee will be promoted up to their level of incompetence.  Example: Joe is an excellent wiffle maker.  In fact Joe is the best wiffle maker the company has ever seen or employed.  So he is promoted to manager - something he has absolutely no qualifications for nor any understanding of such positions.  Then comes chaos!  All this when they should have kept him making wiffles, given him a good raise and praised his work.
Stress will cause a myriad of health problems both physical and emotional.  I once had a job that I excelled at even though I hated it.  I was greatly over-qualified for it and that alone was stressful.  Several "bosses" thought they WERE OUR bosses.  We were constantly getting an order from one (with a threat of firing if we didn't obey) and another threatening "counter order" from a second one and sometimes a third one with a threat.  This, of course, meant we would be punished regardless of which order we obeyed.  The stress from that monkey house nearly did me in and I had to quit.  It was seriously much, much worse than that but I won't go into it at this time. This job made the incompetence of my army superiors seem very logical and brilliant! (susp)

I actually don't know if I had chicken pox as a kid but I did have a couple of minor rashes develop on a leg, arm & back.  The doc prescribed an antiviral which I still take.  And age hasn't been kind to the eyes either.
