This thought just hit me - no, don't stand in line for your turn.  It seems common for people of European (maybe others) descent to boast of having American Indian ancestry; something from a known relation far back.  But has anyone ever heard of people of American Indian descent speak proudly of being 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 "white"?

I do know - and this includes at least 98% of those of European descent - that we can brag about having 3% to 5% Neanderthal dna.  In my case I know for sure and here is a photo of my great grandfather; okay, he's Klingon, not Neanderthal but not much difference.  Hotfxr, do you have a photo of him that maybe I haven't seen?

Personally, I find the resemblance to be very satisfying.  I like making an impression that sends others running.  Talk about fun!

lot of us have that neanderthal DNA , my ex was a bit different , her family was from northern europe ,  here`s a photo of her great ,great garnd dad ,  been told he was a toll collector ,and lived under a bridge !

To get this discussion back on track, The reason most folks don't say how much European blood they have is that there is no benefit in quantifying the blood count like they do for Native American tribal memberships.

Why do we need to to identify the differences between us?  Why can't we live in peace and harmony?  I guess this Master's Degree program is causing me to look at life different.

Everyone hears family stories about "Uncle John's grandfather was half Cherokee." So they want to see if they have Indian blood and where the rest of their ancestors came from. I don't think it's to separate themselves from anything.

My daughter had me take a DNA test. It turned out that my grandmother from "Irish parents" was really Lithuanian. She ran away from home as a young teen because her stepfather was abusing her. She assumed a new identity and never told anyone. Her kids thought they were Irish. The DNA connected me to a third cousin who knew the whole family history including the abuses.

Many people claim to have an ancestor with Indian blood like Elizabeth Warren did. When the DNA is checked more than 70% find it's just a family legend.

I don't have the results from my DNA check just a few years ago, at least not right at hand.  But I have a good portion of European; Scot, Brit, Scandinavian and maybe something else in the mix.  But there was also a lot of "stuff" that was, well, bizarre.  Okay, now do not say it!!  So far nothing extraterrestrial has popped up.

once told an obnoxious fool I worked with that I was half vulcan , and half klingon , when he asked what that meant ,I told him it meant I would have a perfectly logical reason for whooping his tail if he kept acting like a fool ! you should have heard the boss laugh at that one !

With respect to this discussion, I will mention my on claim to native heritage.  Turns out I'm actually 50% "Scrawnee".  I have a couple of friends who are 100% "Squatee".
