how can i make a rear sight from a hacksaw blade?

I guess an answering question would be why do you want to make one out of a hacksaw blade?

Harleypunk, a hacksaw blade would, IMHO, make a poor rear sight.  If you like a thin front sight it should work quite well.  Track of the Wolf carries a large variety of rear sights that are high quality and can even be modified if you wish.  I've bought several rear and front sights from them and installed them on rifles.  That is my recommendation.   thmbsup

At first glance my reaction is "why?", why would you want to use a hacksaw blade as a rear sight? IMHO it would make a terrible rear sight. Then I started thinking, which is when I usually get in trouble. My first question should have been "on what?". A rifle, a pistol, a bow, maybe a cannon? How does it need to be affixed, screw, glue, dovetail, solder? Having a personal history of using products for ways they were never intended to be used, I am now curious as to what you are thinking.

Perhaps, do you mean make a rear sight with a hacksaw blade? As in making a dovetail for a rear sight?

Yes, a hacksaw can be used to make the dovetail that the rear sight goes in.  It is helpful to have a triangular rat tail file as well, when making the dovetail.

Now people.... Let us remember we were all new at one point.  So lets begin with answering the question first then offering our wisdom as to why we should not...

Point 1 - What type of rear site are you looking to create from the hacksaw blade?

Point 2 - Why is it going to be installed on?

from there we can go further...

Ahem, oh most glorified and esteemed leader, please take a closer look at my answer. Just think, Harleypunk could be another version of me, a biker that looks at things differently than the rest and won't always toe the party line.  pnic  What could be better than that?

My immediate response, with all due respect to our fearless leader, would correspond with most of what has been written, Why would you want to make a rear sight period with all the variations that are available from the many suppliers out there? I realize that there are circumstances that call for a custom piece of equipment but this seems like it would take up time better spent on something more important like smelling the bottom of a wine cork. strpot

I have a traditions St.Louis Hawken I am building from a kit,and don't like the plastic sights that came with it. The idea crossed my mind to make a simple rear sight from a hacksaw blade. No dovetail on the barrel, just 2 holes drilled and tapped for the plastic sight. The front sight I can order from Deer creek.

Several years ago,  Hotfxr  fabricated a rear sight for guns that had been tapped  to screw fast the CVA type rear sight.  I have one left and if you want,  I can send it to you.  It is a nice piece of workmanship.  It is designed to fit perfectly on the top flat and edgs of a 15/16" Octagon barrel

Hacksaw blades are not the easiest to work with although in theory it would be simple to do. They are very brittle and very thin. You would have to anneal the blade to be able to bend it without breaking and to drill the holes. I don't think it would be necessary to harden it again since it will just be setting there under no stress. With a little looking around Google you should be able to find sights that will work fairly cheap. That is our motto. I also think a one hole rear sight like T/C made and older Traditions will work also as they conform to the octagon barrel. As a matter of fact, I have an adjustable one hole sights that I took off of one of my rifles that you can have if you want it. PM me your shipping address and I will send it to you.
