To the range again yesterday.  I plan on using my beloved .62 smoothbore here in Va.  With 70 grains of 3F and an op paper wad, the 330 grain flannel patched ball, mink oil lube, gave 50 yard 3-shot groups of under 3".  That's the same load I used to kill my last deer.  Tried 2F but gave up on it.

In the WV I'll use the .50 flintlock with the .45 on standby.

It no longer allows me to post photos so this might not work.

Groups smaller than 3" at 50 yards is fine shooting! I know that I couldn't do that with iron sights.

(susp)  3 inches with a smoothy...i'd say that was some good shootin there.   hntr

Well, you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?

Of course they were only 3-shot groups; but how often do we shoot 5 times at a deer?  Also each shot is a separate event and we start from scratch with each load unlike cartridge guns which shoot identical rounds each time.  It helped that I opened the rear sight notch more twice what any of my other guns have.  Squirrel rifles might be an exception but the big guys....BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!  hntr

Seriously, it twern't me; twus the good gun and good load.  I often can't do much better with a rifle at that range.
