I found a cutlery case in a local yard sale. It was quite rough and well used, but I knew it had potential and decided to turn it into a gun case.

The blue felt interior was torn and shaggy. The exterior was full of scrapes and scratches. It was easy to find a matching felt and the exterior could be buffed out and treated with a furniture polish.

Here is the box:

The interior after applying felt patches and partitions:

And with a cap and ball revolver. The black box contains lead balls and cleaning tools.

And a flintlock:

And, finally, an assault pistol that is so dangerous that it is banned in California. Notice ammo in one compartment.

Outstanding! A great job of refinishing and repurposing; chrrs

They look great. I put mine in a old wooden box for wine bottles. I use another one to store all my hawks and handles in. Thank you for the pictures.

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

pnic  The assault pistol is a relatively new design and therefor is not permitted to be shown on this site!  :mini-devil-28492:   That being said the boxes are great !  We have one with a deep drawer in the bottom and I use it to transport 5 pistols ( 4 full size and 1 Philadelphia Derringer)  when we travel... I don't use it as a display box, but as a transportation box.

I stand chastised for my inclusion of the new-fangled assault pistol. srndr The rubber bands are 65 mm caliber, a projectile not available during the front stuffer era. ;D

Stand by. I have another repurposed box almost complete.

Now, THAT is a real piece of craftsmanship! Very nice!

I am afraid that I just dabble in my little, garage shop. In fact, I only started setting up a drill press, table saw and band saw when I knew that my retirement was coming up in the near future.

believe it or not the partitions are nothing more than cardboard with leather glued over them ! hardest piece to do was the small notebook next to the slot for percussion cap tins , first time at trying book binding , on a small scale ! lol not sure I`d want to do a large one !
