Hello.  I am new here.  This is my first official post.  Does anyone know where I might find a 1 piece stock for a CVA/Traditions Kentucky Rifle.  I am trying to rebuild one that has a messed up stock.  The barrel, etc. are in great condition.
Thanks,

You see, there is this ole tree standing down by the corner gate...May need a little fitting, but you just keep taking wood off that doesn't look like the stock you want .

Doug.

PS  I am working on one that came out of a log by the railroad tracks.  Way more work than I thought it would be.....and Mongrel makes it look so easy.

Try Deer Creek Products they might have what you need.  You can get some CVA parts through  them.   Welcome to the forum, may be somebody on here can help you.

No one I know of makes a one-piece stock for the CVA/Traditions Kentucky. However, Traditions makes several versions of a gun called the "Shenandoah" in both finished and kit form, which has the same 33 1/2" barrel as the Kentucky. This gun has set triggers and therefore a lock with different internals than the locks used on their single-trigger rifles; a lot of the locks Traditions and CVA made utilize the same shape of lockplate, but I don't know if in this case the CVA Kentucky lock would work in the Traditions Shenandoah lock mortice. I also can't say whether or not the CVA brass hardware would fit up to the Traditions stock. I don't even know if the Shenandoah stocks are available as a separate item. As mentioned above, Deer Creek is a good place to start asking, since they carry both the finished and kit versions of the Shenandoah and should be able to give you an idea as to whether or not Traditions offers just the stocks alone. Never hurts to call or e-mail, and ask.

Various stock suppliers offer precarved stocks with 7/8" barrel channels, but by the time the CVA lock was inletted and the hardware fitted (which involves LOTS of wood removal since the CVA buttplate in particular is an extremely slender thing), you might just as well have started from a blank with the barrel channel cut and ramrod hole drilled, and absolutely no shaping done to the rest of the wood.

I've re-stocked more CVA, Jukar, and Traditions Kentuckies than I can remember, always using the barrels and locks, sometimes the buttplates, never the triggerguards or ramrod pipes, and they finish up into really nice-looking rifles. I've sold quite a few rough-shaped or nearly-finished stocks, fully-inletted for the barrels and locks. The CVA (or Jukar or Traditions, all the same thing) parts with new wood add up to really nice rifles. Unfortunately I'm out of the game for a good long while yet to come so I can't offer any help in that regard.

Thanks for the replies.  Deer Creek only has the butt stock end of the 2 piece stock.  I was just wondering.  Traditions only sells the entire kit.  I have tried to get stocks for them before.  One day I will get up the nerve to try and carve out a stock.  Right now I don't have the time or proper tools.  I have tried to buy a 2 piece stock off ebay, but boy their prices get out of hand quickly!

I've purchased several parts on the bay.  Just bid low and log off.  If you get it fine. If not just bid some more.  Never get caught up in the "I need this one" bidding.  Plus make sure you watch the shipping, but I'm sure you already knew that.

if you have not tried to carve out a stock, try it with practice wood. clear pine comes to mind. pick up a gunsmithing book or two, and follow their step by step process. i have the Gunsmith of Grenville County. use the existing stock as a pattern and get your measurements from that. practice your inletting on 2x4 wood.
as soon as i have a nice curly maple or quilted walnut blank that is long enough, i`m restocking my Ardesa 2 piece .45. am also considering converting it to flint.
