I found instructions on the 'net and decided to try my hand at making them.

1. Bought a lime green 3 x 4 ft posterboard for about $1.50 or so. Corrected: 22" by 28".

2. Covered the poster board with clear packing tape, 1 layer.

3. Spray painted flat black with a can of $0.99 paint from Walmart.

4. The bulls eye was a leftover from a yard sale.

It works!
I was able to cut out a load of 6" square targets from the one sheet.

That seems cost effective.

Personally, I use old cardboard boxes with a black magic marker dot in the middle.

I simply couldn't see where my shots hit on regular targets. The Shoot & See really helped that.

To be honest, I don't know if these targets are all that cost effective once you figure in all the costs. A few dollars for the poster board, $.99 for the paint that will do 2 poster boards; a few bucks for the packing tape that will cover a few poster boards; and you can get about 4 along one side and 5 along the other to get targets that are about 5" square. I was getting about 18 good ones from one poster board. Let's say about $5 for the supplies and you get 2 poster boards of targets, about 36. That's about 15 cents a target.

I just picked up 100 Shoot & See 5" targets from Sportsman's Guide that cost $17.95. That's about 18 cents per target. Not bad.

So, it's a toss up.

By rotating and flipping a box, you can get 3 targets out of it if it has a bottom.

But doesn't a box have six sides?  :o
you must be flipping it wrong.

RonC, it is a very scary intellection, but you seem to think like I do. Try for cheap, but don't let real cost get in the way of figuring out how to make something that works out of things no one else would consider for the task.  thmbsup  So does your wife and her friends talk to each other, look at you, then slowly shake their heads and just kind of wander off like my wife does? For some reason it happens to me a lot. Not totally sure why.  [hmm]
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Did you paint the side with the clear packing tape with spray black or are they on opposite sides?  This sounds like a fun project.

I just lay the posterboard on a table and start applying the packing tape on one side, trying to get it smooth and flat. That doesn't always work perfectly as you can see in the photo.
Then, I spray the flat black paint on the packing tape.
After the paint dries, I measure and cut the targets out.

I don't use boxes because I would have to paint them in bright colors first.

I do use boxes for shooting a pellet and BB gun. To avoid bothering neighbors with the THUP, THUP of pellets hitting the 4' x 8' plywood backing, I shoot into a cardboard box filled with Duct Seal Putty. I can stick the targets up against the duct seal.

The big problem is the number of ducks required to make one pound of duck seal putty.

And, hotfxr, I can identify strongly with watching others, including my wife, shake their heads. Shaking their heads doesn't trouble me. Shaking their heads and dialing their mobile phones does. ;D

By the way, these targets work with pellet guns.

My boxes aren't bulletproof. The ball usually goes through the back too.

I'm too lazy to cut them up. When you just set the box on the ground, you don't need a support ... unless the wind is blowing hard.

It has been many, many years since I've bought any targets.  In fact I can't even remember the last time I did; must have been back in the 1970s.  I scrounge up targets at the range.  The trash cans are usually filled with targets having only one hole and some completely unshot.  I now have so many targets of different kinds I'll never be able to use them all.  And I'm talking quite a few of the "shoot n see" targets..

6 sides ?  skrt well , lets look at this from a different perspective . a box (assuming it has a bottom , and top , has a back side , front side , left , and right side , top and bottom side , and an inside and outside ! think that adds up to 8 !  :mini-devil-28492:  ROFL ROFL
