Stock Carving

I have a couple of FL stocks I would like to carve on. I have a few carving chisels, but not sure if they are the right ones. I'd like to know what chisels I need. Hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks.

you mean I need more than a sawzall and drill to make a stock?  I thought you just cut away the wood that isn't a stock until the hidden nicely stained hand rubbed beauty showed herself....

     RB  is constantly in/on his mind, ever since the Cannon Duel that RB has not returned fire on.    He's becoming a basket case, suspect this is RB's plan.

Ha, that would be a situation now wouldn't it?    I am 1800 miles away from him and I still know it. Why do you think we have earthquakes in CA? Snoring from the plains and prairie states. Sets up that harmonic oscillation and by the time it reaches the coast, somewhat like a tsunami, the ground shakes.

Lets get the train back on the tracks shall we... I shot and hit the target, but my lovely video operator fell  down on her job and forgot to put a good tape in the machine (but she cooks and sews and does other things) so it was with gracious humility and self control I did not beat her and submitted my person to the unabridged torment of a certain owner of a cannon mysteriously named "Bruce" thereby showing my total lack of disdain for the upstart and miscreant who would ever name a cannon "Bruce"... kind of like naming you first boy child Sue...

Try www.jimkibler.net. He offers a stock carving practice piece and the instructions on how to carve the design he shows. It may be what you are looking for. Also, FWIW, Mike Miller ( gunbuilder from Paducah, KY)  suggests a 1mm,3mm & 6mm flat chisel, a Skew #2 6mm, and  #'s 3,4,5,6,7 gouges 6mm and last #'s 8 & 10 in 3mm. This is his list for the beginner. I don't carve but am trying to assemble the above list of tools and plan on giving it a try maybe. Good luck in your project.
