Pistol Loading Stand - required at shooting range

The new rules at our range require that rifles and pistols must be pointed up whenever the shooter is not at the firing line, and must remain pointing up even at the loading table. So, I decided to build a loading stand.

I wanted a stand that would distribute the the force on the grip horizontally so that pistols like the Patriot, know for breaking just behind the lock area while being loaded on a stand, would not break.

There was a wooden basket in the garage, so I took it apart, rearranged the parts, added some pieces where necessary and had a useful, but not particularly beautiful stand. Please note the compartment that has carpet with dense foam underneath it on an angle to spread the load.

Outstanding job of re-purposing! Added kudos for jumping right in with the "on the cheap" theme of this forum.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Thank you for your comments!

Given my limited woodworking skills, I always look for shortcuts.
Once I find some flathead screws that are more period correct, I may replace the Phillip head screws.

That's pretty cool. I try to reuse stuff all the time. dntn
