hey to the Gang,

here are a couple of Mule ear locks I'm working on.. Outside mainspring lock is my design, based on interpreting some
traits of a couple different originals. The other is a Medberry pattern.. the allen head screw :o is a temp and was just handy when I was test fitting parts.. a New one will be made and look PC blah  these are still rough and were just hit on a wire wheel to get rid of some shop goo..

Very nice looking locks. Will you be making them for sale and can you do left handers?

Pappa,

I have not ever made one to sell..  as I tend to not take orders very well,     just ask my Wife ;D
<Seriously though, once got burned with a 'custom' gun build I let myself get talked into. decided I just don't do well with harassing e-mails and phone calls..before I even had the parts in!!!!   but that is enough of that story srndr>

I would work on a thought, that goes something like this.. I'll make what I want and do it the way I KNOW HOW..
IF i make something you are interested in, then make me a decent and fair offer.. I can either accept or beg off at that point?  and neither of us should feel bad..  Now having said that, they are hand made, so a lefty is not out of the question? just gotta remember which side of the plate I'm working on  hdslp

Helps to know what you are looking for?? in case the mood strikes me.

Jonathan,
Fairly said, I appreciate your straight forward approach. Forgetting the LH for a moment, could you duplicate a TC lock plate with your innards and make it a TC drop in lock? I have modified a TC Hawken for table shooting but have to shoot it lefty due to an eye problem and I'm trying to get the hammer out of my line of sight. I fiqure I could change the breech to a flinter and replace the touch hole liner with a drum.

Pappa,

Since everything is hand made.. I think I could fit the works into that configuration?
There are some design considerations though.. a normal Muley uses a camming trigger
or trigger bar, to move the sear bar horizontally. So, I see some inletting changes??
and a change to the trigger set up..

and my locks with the bell-crank mod,  while the sear is tripped vertically,  some inletting
changes would be required i would think?

Depending on the size of your liner?? a normal nipple 'may' screw right in??

Some things to consider??

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

beowulf

that`s some nice work . there are a few folk out there who`d like to have one . for those who are interested there`s always this outfit http://pioneerarms.com/mule_ear_lock.html  dont know if they make a lefty or not , but they do a drop in lock for the tc .

Papa

Jonathan,
let me give it some thought. Thanks.

Beowulf,

Thanks for the response and the reminder.. Had forgotten about Pioneer? Theirs is a 'direct' replacement and
if the cost is near the same as the web site?? probably cost affective!

John taylor, http://www.johntaylormachine.com  shows under the example section a replacement for a TC he did.
John is a great guy and I know he'd do good work. if willing!

to the gang!

spring rains and an engineering study, and the lab I work in is SWAMPED!  of course they all want nutrient analysis,
which is 'my' game in our lab.. to that end I'm beat and gun/lock work is lagging. Only good thing is, between test and during digesting.. I have a couple minutes here and there to scribble.  here is some "potential" engraving ideas??  I'm no where near ready to cut them.. just trying to get a visually pleasing design on a few of the plate styles I made templates for.. need some opinions/ideas

So tell me what you think..
