A, B, C weight?

Can anyone tell me what weight designations A, B, C, etc mean? I have seen them listed on different builders supply sites but have not seen a definition stating what it all means. I do believe, although I could be wrong do to bleary eyed site surfing, that it might have something to do with the profile of the stock also. That just adds to my ever increasing state of confusion.

      not too sure about stocks,  but have seen the A, B, C  referring to barrels.

It is a manufacturer's designation for their swamped barrels. A being small D is large. You can find out the dimensions by going to the Track of Wolf site and look up swamped barrels.

A is smallest across flats & is only for small to med. calibers.  B next, overlaps A and has a few larger calibers.  D is the fat one and comes in all calibers.   Clear as a coastal morning ?    Tom

Gunmaker is correct.  And these designations may vary from maker to maker somewhat.  Yes, there is considerable overlap with calibers.  My .32 has an "A" weight barrel and my .50 & 40 are "B" weight.

It refers to the diameter of the barrel at the breech. "a" is @ 13/16, "B" is @ 7/8,"C" is @ 1",and "D", is @ 1-1/8". No matter the length.
