The original "Old Faithful" scratcher

hotfxr

OK, my friend, what is it and what does it do? My guess is it is some type of game call.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

DandJofAZ

Looks like a back scratcher to slip down inside back of your buck skin leather shirt. Handy to pull around with the thong.

The 2 sides are worked like a scraper over the slate to create hen sounds.  I like to use it on a pot call.

Cool. But why do you want to call pots. Don't you bring your own to camp?   ROFL   ROFL

DaveHawk assumes we are all turkey hunters, and familiar with the tools of that trade. I personally am not, nor do I ever expect to "call" a turkey...(Now if one happens to walk by..... hntr) So Mr. Hawk if you could for those of us uninformed curious types, provide a little explanation of the use of the fine calls you turn out I would be grateful.  wtch
Being a wood worker my self, I see the pride you take in your work. Really fine craftsmanship, but we can not really appreciate what you have done till we understand what you do!  [hmm]

Sweed, when I turn the pot calls I also turn strikers to match up to each individual pot call. Strikers are what make the sound, it's the instrument that plays. Most of the time I will make 4or5 strikers for 1 Pot call. This allows the hunter to quickly make changes to the pitch and the raspy quility tones.
The scratch call adds a hole new dimension the turkey calling. Tones thats I've only heard from the bird itself.

Very interesting...to bad we aren't audio equipped, never having heard the difference between calls.  Some of us are just plum ignorant on some topics.
