on the cheap, it's hard to beat lee precision for their aluminium double ball moulds.  typically about $25/shipped, and even cheaper if found used.  they come ready to go with handles and sprue cutter.  easy to use, and they do make for running decent balls.

very first cast balls with a new lee .440 mould, cheap lee 4# pot and ladle ...

I likes the way they work too.  they can get hot, but I usually use two molds at a time and the cooling time  between the two works out real well....

I normally run two molds at a time, too.  Lee molds are excellent; most of my rb molds are lee.  I guess I must have 8 or 10 Lee molds.

I use them!  but I need to order one for the new Bess and one for my Mike Lang "Jeager" and I suppose I really do need a couple more for some other one off caliburts I have floating around here... But I'll still use double ought buckshot for Lady Bulldogs .32 rifle it is so much easier to get double ought in bulk.

on the other side of the dollar bill ...

for more than twice the price tag of a lee double mould, there's the jeff tanner single cavity brass mould.  these babies are the cat's meow for running balls and i have one for each of my flinters.

I have a Jeff Tanner mold for my smoothbore and the quality is super.

I too prefer the Lee Moulds.  They always "Mic-out" to the thousandth....at least in my experience.  I love the sprue cutter as it works well and doesn't effect the roundness of the ball.  When I "run ball" I do it in the garage with the garage door open and a box fan behind me so all the fumes from the electric lead pot is forced outside and I don't have to breath the fumes.   In this day and age it is nice to find a product that is affordable and works so well.   chrrs

i made a casting corner in my basement shop, using a super quiet bathroom exhaust fan routed to a basement window.  the fan is attached to an adjustable height sheet ply mount that's anchored on the ceiling joist above it.  put in a false plywood "window" with some cutouts covered with lexan plastic to let the light in.  that exhaust window is removable and when it's off i can drop down the real hinged glass window.  anyhoo, no fumes, no smell at all, even when using smoky sawdust flux.

I too have mostly Lee molds. I got all of them off Ebay, usually on sale. Averaged about $17 each shipped.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

Lee moulds are so inexpensive that I just buy them new. $19 plus shipping.

Another vote for lee molds.I got lazy a while back and bought some swaged round balls, that was a huge mistake.I couldn't understand why what accuracy I had left disappeared. So I miked and weighed some of the balls. They miked ok but the weight was all over. They turned out to be expensive lead for the pot.Oh well live and learn.Another benefit with lee molds is if the blocks get damaged or worn Lee will rebuild them at half price of new molds.
