A couple of months ago I contacted Wick Ellerbe about getting one of his French Boucheron trade knifes, but he emailed an said he wasn't taking any new orders. Soooo! Ordered me a carbon steel blank an some curly maple slabs a decided to make my own, starting to take shape, need to finish shaping the handles then skinny the blade up some more an I'll be there, not an exact duplicate of wicks but I'm liking it, last year I used the same carbon steel blank to make me a ball handled knife like Wick makes also.

Got the blade shaped up an the handle shaped an the first coat of BLO applied! I'll get a few more coats of BLO an clean the blade up more then it'll be finished, blade $16.00 an wood was $4 then just my time, how's that for on the cheap!!!

Very nice,  maybe you should think about taking orders for French Style Trade knives

woody

Very nice looking knife, and the satisfaction of making it yourself is a big plus.  thmbsup

Pilgrim, your echoing my wife, she was telling me the same thing earlier.

Very nice. I have had nothing but problems with scratching the blade on every knife I have tried to make.
I am the one your mom warned you about!

All finished except for a few more coats of BLO rubbed in!

Really nice,,where did you find the parts to make it so cheaply??  I've got some outlined on a saw blade right now , but not looking forward to cutting them out with my dremel and file shaping.  Way to much work and the time would be better spent if I had a good looking starter blade like you found.
Seems my grandson also needs to be outfitted with a bigger knife or two.  He took one of my scratch built general purpose  4"blade ones home after last years camping trip, but now after the winter national where he left with a new hunting smock, centerseam mocs, drop front wool pants, and throwing hawk-- he thinks he needs a big knife.  Can't argue with a 13yr old who is getting into this BP stuff with both feet.

The blade is the Combat High Carbon Steel Blade from Atlanta Cutlery for $15.95 the slabs are from track of the wolf an the pins are the shafts of worn out Dremel tools.

Shafts from worn out dremel tools...I like that "on the cheap" material supplier.  Thanks for the info..
