While contemplating the imminent and inevitable demise of Ciapach Dearg Broc ( Irish for Annoying Red Badger) I have been searching for ways to increase my hawk inventory ( At the lowest cost possible, of course.) as I don't want there to be any lingering or drawn out pain before he gasps out his last breath. Frankly I don't have time or the patience to put up with it. My fellow co-rodent exterminator sent me a link to a site that talks about making a "No Forge" tomahawk. I checked it out and was compelled to whip out a couple. For your perusal;

These throw as well as any of the others hanging on the wall. They conform to all the AKTA standards and the best part of it all is, they cost me a total of $2.00 to build them both. I have maybe a total of 4 hours building them. Outside of the threaded couplers, I got every thing from the scrap bin at my brother-in-law's door shop. What better way to dispatch a pesky varmint than with cheapo weapons?

Did I say that? I should be ashamed of myself and some one should hit me up side the head.  slap  Of course nobody has ever done that and lived to tell about it.   ROFL

Here is the (missing) link.:   http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Tomahawk-Without-a-Forge

I looked at the first couple of pics and said, yeah, I can do that.  So the first two I made seem to get along with the others:

That's them on the lower left. If it weren't for the fact I can't make an even weld to save my life, they would look real close to the forged ones at the top.

I am an avid air gunner and have been for years, I custom make them too.
(Normally using crosman co2 or crosman pump guns as the base gun.

I have 2 that will turn dime sized groups at 50 yards.

On one of the air gun forums there is a guy with the user name. "Right eye shot out"

I won't post photos of the guns here as they are not period correct, but might post a group or two..

Love the hawks, I bought some steel  tubing today at the box store, gonna borrow a friends welder to make me one..

..177 caliber 50 yards from a rest 6 shots

10 shots 75 yards  same gun.
I inch circle, .25 inch squares

I have regular guns that don't shoot that good.

As for PC/HC,  the Lewis and Clark Expedition, reportedly had  air rifles.  Its reported that they would demonstrate, to the native Indians,  the firepower.  Shoot without having to reload.

Yes they did, I have actually shot a reproduction of the Girandoni air rifle that they carried.
Would love to have one but out of my price range, even for a reproduction..

Let's just say that my air rifles don't follow the classic lines of a 1800's rifle...

That being said, I have seen 2 examples of modern air power plants being put into traditional muzzle loader designs with the butt stock being hollowed out to hold the co2 or compressed air chamber..
And the patch box hiding the fill port.

Let me say that I feel that Lewis & Clark and their merry band of boat draggers are among the bravest men in American history. And without letting anyone in on his plan, Merriweather Lewis pulled the ultimate "pysch" of all time on the native americans with that lone air gun, fooling them into thinking he had boatloads of the magic, silent, rifles that did not have to be reloaded. And it worked every time. At least from what I have been able to find in my limited research. Even more mind boggling is that those air chambers had to be pumped about 1500 times with 1800's era pump technology using leather as bushings & gaskets since they did not have rubber back then. If you have any info on the "modern air power plant" rifles, I would love to learn more about them. Being as I am compelled to tinker with anything that lands in my hands, I can think of numerous ways to have fun with an air powered traditional muzzleloader rifle.

This is a copy of the Lewis & Clark air rifle, made by a friend of mine & his compadre. They actually made three, one for each & one to sell to recoup expenses. I believe the selling price was about $30,000...

Rev

The stock is the air chamber, pumped to capacity it fires 15 shots. I believe the original did  about 30...

Rev, do you have any more pictures? I don't see the feeding tube, but then again I am not sure where it is or even what it looks like.

That is a fine looking rifle, although at $30K is not quite in keeping with our "on the cheap" motif. It looks like they made it to have a PRB set in place with a ramrod. Very cool. (My birthday is just around the corner if you were looking for the perfect gift.   ROFL )
