This blog post about a fella's visit to Fort de Chartres in Illinois is pretty interesting. The post was mentioned and linked in A Woodsrunner's Diary blog. When ever I get back to that part of the country I will have to go visit it.

Thanks for the link. We just returned from Ste. Genevieve & visited both Fort de Chartres & Prairie du Rocher. We also rode the ferry across the Mississippi. I was surprised how fast it went compared to the ferry crossing the Ohio at Augusta, KY. I was quite impressed by Ste. Genevieve. They have a 5 house tour, mostly self guided but all the historic houses had an interpreter. They were good, too. I'd recommend the Ste. Gen. tour to everyone. Fort de Chartres has a small but nice museum also. The fort's grounds would  be a nice rondyvoo spot.
