I'd like to hear more about working with Myrtlewood as well as what type of finish you used.  Where do you get Myrtlewood?  It looks pretty enough though, but it doesn't grow down here in South Texas.

flintboomer

Myrtlewood only grows a couple of places in the world, Oregon is one of them and the wood varies a lot from tree to tree. It can make a nice gunstock.

Nice work on both of them Frank.

Myrtle is as Flintboomer said ,Northern Calif. coast and Oregon coast is only places Ive heard of . It can be cantankerist to work with once in while with grain changing direction quickly . It finishes up nice tho'. I used Laurel Mt. light brown on this for a honey color. Linseed oil was used after.
I was lucky nuff to get 10 planks 30 yrs back at great price but am running out of it now.

William,Oregon Myrtle sometimes called Pepperwood in Northern Calif. is sometimes hard to work but can have beautiful figure going everywhichway, turning , twisting, rolling.  Very hard wood to dry without checking, sometimes put under water for up to 2 yrs. to keep from drying too fast.  Hank
