Humidity chamber for barrels

When browning barrels, some people run the shower in the bathroom and then put the barrels in the humid bathroom to promote rust.  It works but other members of the family object when I don't want them letting the humidity out by opening and closing the door.  They just don't understand.  So I devised a small humidity chamber that I could put in a corner of the basement and no one notices.  It is made from 48" of 3" diameter PVC pipe.  A cap is fitted to one end but not cemented in place.  At the top of the pipe a hole is drilled through both sides.  For use, the cap is removed from the bottom and a chunk of sponge saturated with water is put in and the cap replaced.  The pipe is stood upright and the barrel lowered in from the top.  A 1/8" steel rod is slid through the one side hole and then through the hole in the tang and out the other hole in the pipe.  This suspends the barrel without it touching the sides or bottom.  A plastic bag is put over the top to close things up.  It works great.  When I had finished and had taken the barrel out, I could feel a slight dampness on the inside of the pipe.  Humidity should have been pretty high in there and it didn't inconvenience the use of the bathroom.  Smaller pieces can be suspended from the lid of a large jar/jug over some water.
