After using 3 sets of Moccasins over the years.
I am thinking Buckle Colonial Shoes might be a better choice?!?
The time frame is good the records show they were traded/Sold in the area.
Would people use the Buckle Shoes till the were worn out and then make or trade for some Moccasins?
Or Perhaps hunt in them and use the Shoes for going to Sunday services or town?
Any of you use Buckle Shoes now.
Also thinking about the Jefferson Boots as an option.
I have backpacked 14 miles a day in the Mountains of New Mexico.
My feet were fine using hiking boots. thmbsup
I walked about 2 miles without a pack in my moccasins to and from a trail camp and that was tough going. [hmm] rdfce

Buckle shoes are good for anywhere up to the 1820 time frame.

Records show that some of the hunters out of Kaskansa bought buckle shoes for hunting down the Cumberland during the 1770-1780 time frame.  Baker has that documented in his work.

The Jefferson booties date back to the mid-1600 era and Jefferson was supposed to have been sworn in as pres while wearing a pair.  They were very popular in France before and after the Revolution as a rejection of the buckle shoes which were viewed as an extravagance of the rich.

I find that when I wear leggings or trowsers the shoe tops do not show on the Jefferson booties and the buckles are usually covered on buckle shoes.

If you are working historic sites go with the buckle shoes, if you are not doing jurried events take your pick.
