Raining down in Texas

After nearly three months without so much as a drop of rain here in South Texas we are finally getting some relief, yesterday and today.  So far I have measured over an inch here in town and more is coming down right now.  I hope we don't get too much at once as there is so much exposed soil with no vegetation to hold it in place, but we are desperate.  For those of you who have had too much rain, than you for sending us some.

We just had a good heavy thirty minute downpour here in Ingram, it's let up now, but I think we may see more before the night is through.

As the Navajo describe the event I pray for a long female rain for you. Male rains are intense downpours with much wind, lightening and thunder. Female rains are more of a nourishing slow rain that might last for many hours, even days. Allowing the moisture to soak in and replenish the parched soil.

         Glad to hear your getting some relief in your area.  We seldom get more then 10" of rain in the average  12 month  cycle but its been exceptionly dry for a long period , like tinder. We,ve had a good shower or two recently but are still under the burn ban.

We're still in stage II water restrictions meaning we can only water once a week according to street address before 10 am and after 8pm on designated days and BBQ pits are still banned in all city parks but we received another 1/4 inch last night during a brief storm, totalling 1.5" for the past 4 days.  We're still several inches behind normal but every little bit helps.  I may even have to mow the lawn before we get our first freeze, hope the mower still works!

We here in Osage county OK are down 8.5 inches at last count and have a fire ban in effect no fires at all (including fireplace) so my forge is sitting ready to go .... Luckily Washing County (right next door, more or less) is not under the ban so fires will be allowed at Wool-A-Roc next week....

That's extreme, although I can't imagine why someone would have a fireplace going inside their house during the summer time.  My Alabama kin wouldn't be able to cook a meal on their woodburning stove under such a ban, and I'm not joking at all.

We got 3/4 of an inch last evening. So far our toatl since sept 15, 2010 till now is 3.65 inchs of rain. Kinda bites.

Rational from the county is some of the fireplaces around here do not have spark arrestors or covers and they are afraid of them starting fires.... and last week we had a cold front move through that dropped the evening temps into the 40's so a fire would have been welcome.....

It seems your prayer did some good, last night, out of nowhere a big storm rolled in and gave us a fantastic female rain, lasted a good four hours. Awful humid today, but well worth it.

That is great news!  It didn't roll south and get us but we're still downhill eventually we'll benefit from it.  Maybe the boat ramps at Canyon lake will be surrounded by water again soon, if some of that rain got into the Guadalupe river.
