I took my flint .62 smoothbore back to the range today and tried .590" prb combos.  About the best (not bad, really) was 75grns Goex 3F, 1/2" cushion wad, ball and .026 canvas patch lubed with Hoppes.  No problem at 25yds but not so good at 50yds.  It could be my lousy shooting but I'm tired of experimentation and this is what I'll use this fall for deer.  If it is problematic then I'll go back to that bare ball load that was not half bad at 50.

I don't know, I just never cared for the idea.  To me it's like wearing a belt AND suspenders.

Ball and buck is not legal in NH. Must be single projectile of .40 cal or larger. Of course that only applies during muzzleloader season and would in fact be legal in regular gun open season where anything over a 22 cal rimfire is ok.
