Well it finally arrived, my first smoothbore. .62 cal. (Poorboy-style) plain gun.  L & R Lock, steel thimbles and trigger guard, no butt plate or nose cap. I can't wait to try her out.

Nice looking 20 guage. Congratulations on your new toy.
Do you plan on shooting mostly ball, mostly shot, or it will it just depend on the day and your mood?

Both, but shot most of the time. I hope to get in some squirrel hunting this fall. The man I got it from was shooting .610 balls w/thin patch and included 22 balls so,... I've at least got to give them a try. thmbsup

Have fun!

Post some pics when you have a good day with the tree rats.
Better go for head shots when you use ball on the little guys.   hntr   :mini-devil-28492:

I finally got out to shot my smoothbore and she functioned just fine, but I had to cut my session short (4 loads) with a stuck ramrod. I had a h*ll of a time getting it out but finally got it. After each shot I  swabbed the bore with a split lubed patch and jag, but she stuck tight when I was running the patch out after the forth shot. Now that I've got the kinks worked out and I pick up some #6 shot I'll get'r ready for the tree rats! hntr

When cleaning, use a little 0000 steel wool on the jag,it'll help polish the bore. Been doin' it for years on all my gun's and they all load smooth, like butter! I almost never clean between shot's,mostly only if it's super hot and humid.

Anyone out there have any idea what historical time period this one might fit into? I'm just guessing it may have a French or French/American style??? ???
