Howdy to the board. This is my first post here and after seeing some of the wonderful scirm work posted, I just couldn't stand it any longer! I took down my old horn, took a deep breath and started scratch'n....No where near the fine horns I've been drooling over here, but I think it will display ok with my old squirrel rifle.

This old horn was rather crudely made. so I was trying for a period handmade look that a half educated frontiersman would have done himself.
(I'm sure you noticed the spelling errors.)

Woody you've done good, it's something to be proud of.  Welcome to TMC, I hope we'll get to see more of your work in the future.

Woody, Very nicely done!.... thmbsup   The way your lettering follows the slight curve of the horn is excellent and many of today's people who try to do lettering mess this detail up! ... Enough praise!  Git another horn and get 'er done!

Thanks again guys. I ordered a carbide scrimshaw scribe today, I want to try a nice one next. Figured I should invest in a proper tool.

Very good work, at least your showing something, I've been on this site and still haven't made the time to do my horn. Way to go. thmbsup

Here are photos of my second try at scrimshawing a powder horn. It is a smaller priming horn with the same basic theme as my large horn.
Not the best, but I'm happy with it.

Nothing wrong with that one, keep at it!
