Summer suck's as far as I'm concerned, too hot and too many bug's! Fall/early winter is the best. I'll be down in Port Austin August thru October, and plan on going to Lodi,Ohio, and Camp Perry during that time, maybe we could hook up for a short one.

Kris you might hit part of the Appellation trail in the mid Spring NC TN VA If you can catch the Mountain Laurel in Bloom it is awesome that way the bugs haven't arrived in force or are just getting started and not to hot and humid.
You cover 3 states in 80 miles or so.

i have school until june 1 then im a free man after that

on the Appalachian trail can you camp there
Yes they have shelters (Primitive) on the trail and you can pick out a Campsite of your choosing if you don't want to stay in shelters.
They have good maps that mark springs and other water sources and Overlooks historic areas etc....
Some of the trail is State parks/national Parks /Forrest land so different rules apply.
In Bear areas you have to camp in shelters.
It is a world of its own and worth doing!

Rocky

Kris, as a person who used to trek, backpack, go off into the woods for weeks at a time, (when I was younger), let me advise you on something, do yourself a favor and get into shape for it, starting now. Walking off into the woods is fun until it hurts, then it is no longer fun and it can even make you not want to do it again.  I used to ride long distance on a bicycle, and I used to go and live out in the middle of nowhere for a single night as well as a few weeks. If you are not in shape, then inexperience will make the first time close to impossible unless you have help that can tell you what you should be doing so the outing doesn't go bad.
When I say starting now, I mean for you to start walking everyday. Build yourself up, then add a backpack, then start putting weight in it, increasing the weight as you get stronger. If you start now you can start easy. Walking the App. Trail isn't a piece of cake, but it can be very fun. You have to be in shape, something many people fail to plan for.
I hope you have a fun time where ever you go, wish I could join you, but the mortgage has to be paid and I want to be around while my child grows up. Keep up your enthusiasm for our Mountain Man lifestyle. It is because of people like you and the rest of us this will not die off. My hat is off to you.

Hammerhead

thank you guys for the information and thank you rocky for what you said. still a couple questions. if i go to the appilachian trail on a trek in the right time of year is hunting allowed

Hammerhead

and also are the water sources safe to drink from

Blackfeet

The Trail covers a lot of area, let alone the states that you would pass through. If you started or ended your trip up our way, (Rocky and I's) during the deer hunting season, you would not be able to finish before dead of winter. The best bet is to get in shape and do short, then longer day trips. Besides, If you were to do short trips up our way, I am sure that we could keep you company for a bit

Red Badger

Also remember the cost of hunting licscenses for each tyrpe of hunting in each state will add up.. If you want to hunt on your treck I'd suggust a one state treck so you do not have to worry about "watcha doing in my state with a gun and no liscense bub?" From the Local Fish & Game rep....

Believe me that can ruin a good treck...
"The table is small signifying one prisoner alone against his or her suppressors..."

Blackfeet

That and the fact that if you get anything of size, you better be very hungry or have a way to preserve the leftovers

If your with some other's, i'm sure they would help you eat it....
