From what hear, "BEWARE" some are good and some are junk. I know there will other wiser people to give you a better answer...

boat anchor, paper weight, door stop are words that come to mind. They are chinese junk made out of cast iron. I dont like wasting money. I have one some oen gave me. I use it as a weight when I folding leather.

Kris, don't waste your money. They are junk. My fav anvil is a 2' piece of 5"x5", mounted on end in an angle iron frame. It weighs about 200# and cost me $50 at the scrap yard.

Harbor Freight anvils are referred as "ASO's" (anvil shaped object's) amongt's blacksmiths new and old (I mean the blacksmiths), get a piece of train track steel, or maybe a piece of forklift tine for a a starter anvil, you'll be real surprised what you can do on those.

i have two nice heavy anvils and a set of small tinners anvils my buddy has a harbour freight he wanted to sell me for 50 bucks and i said i didnt know

The really nice thing about that one is that you can resurface it for years at no real cost thmbsup

I haven't bought a thing from HF that was worth a damn. :qz:

i got a belt sander there and it broke the next week. i also got a small etching tool that didnt do nothigng

Some HF stuff is all right. Knowing what stuff that is, is the trick. I own, use, and am perfectly happy with a wire-feed welder I bought from them, and I'm not simply a wannabe sticker-together-er of pieces of metal who doesn't know the difference between a welder that works well and one that doesn't. The builder of absolutely the highest-end guns I've ever laid hands on, and other builders who employ machine tooling in their shops, tell me that milling machines and lathes sold by HF are all the average gunsmith will ever realistically need. So there is some good stuff to be had from them -- but there's a lot of junk, too, their anvils near the top of the list.

Red Badger

the issue of Harbor freight has been debated on this site several times and like Mongrel stated some of their stuff is good, some is junk it is up to you to figure out which is which.... I have seveal things I bought from them which I use dailing for my Locksmithng business, and I have some stuff which I bought for 1 time use ... I own a router from them that has seen several years of misuse and still functions properly verses the Craftsman router that lasted 35 days before it broke and had to go back to sears...  Also Harbor Freight does have a fairly good return policy (IMHO)

That being said the anvil in question is as was mentioned above JUNK for metal but does make a nice doosrstop...

Don't know about the anvil but, I built this well house frame last week with a Harbor Freight chop saw, a HF grinder and welded it with a Harbor Freight 90 amp mig wire welder.  If I do not build anything else they paid there way but seem like they will go on ticking.  They metal blade on the chop saw and welding wire that came with the welder were next to worthless, once I put on a quality blade and some Hobart wire in the welder I was good to go. I have quite a few things from HF and have to say I'm quite satisfied.  Got their bench drill press for $50 and it's well worth that.  It will do about everything I'll ever need it to do.  Have bought hollow punches, chisels, two different wire cable come-a-longs and more.  For the money (especially with coupons) most of their stuff is fine.  I know one gunsmith who is perfectly satisfied with a HF milling machine.
Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

Harbor freight anvil is a boat anchor. The anvil I shoe horses with is 125lbs and is 25 years old. Just looked the other day 695.00 to get a knew one. That anvil has  paid for 2 divorces child support and 3 different property's in its life time and still looks good. Only way a farrier can go to hell is beating cold iron and not charging enough.
